CCP asked, "why don't we have more forum activity?" Here's why.

At one of the recent CSM meetings CCP fielded a question to the CSMs. Loosely paraphrased, they asked, "Why don't we experience more forum activity from our subscriber base?".

The CSMs answered all sorts of things; the user interface of the forum. The inability to properly link videos/pictures. Not enough constant communication from devs about issues. All pretty reasonable criticisms.

Unfortunately, it seems the CSM left out the most important criticism of all. I'd like to quote a post from a recent thread, made by a separate user. While his post was not made in relation to this topic - I do believe he hit the nail on the head.

"This is the EVE forums, a place occupied by spreadsheet neckbeards with little to say outside of bashing a players ship choice and/or fitting or playstyle. Do not expect any sort of sympathy, useful comments or friendliness."

That is spot on. That is the reason why most people who have thought about posting here haven't by the end of it. That is the reason why most people who have posted here have stopped posting here by the end of it.

Until the culture is changed - through the proper enforcement of EULA and TOS policies - the EVE-O forums will continue down this road and be nothing but a place for e-spaceship elitists to gather and poke fun at everything that comes through.

The Eve subreddit is more often than not much more interesting and informative than the official forums.

Interestingly enough, one can say much the same thing about the game itself.

"Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

One of ours, ten of theirs.

Wait...is a toon named Your Dad Naked feeling a little posterior pain over the quality of the forums? Perhaps have even been the victim of a little ribbing by the community?

Are you serious? If you want to be taken seriously, post with an appropriately named character, with quality content, in the appropriate forums. If you are unable to do so, please see RatKnight1's post above.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

when I read this, I think about World of Tanks. some players just plain hate pub for no reason, and tend to be very toxic in forum by flame to any players who try to give advice that don't match their belief (good example is few players flame pubs for cap base instead kill all enemy even though they still win).

no idea if ban them help or not.

picture may help but not really important. (WoW forum do it fine without picture/video)

Do you even play EVE? Or is forum trolling your full-time gig?

We do what we can to make the forums better, but it only works up to a point. In general, the various subforums are far better about being constructive, and have far better communities than GD (and a few others). That is, in part, why I try to move threads to more specific subforums if possible.

My dear old Dad used to wisely say, "If you don't have anything bad to say, don't post". I do my best to live by his sainted words.

Remember this, happy people have no reason to post. They're happy and playing the game. So who does that leave to fill the forums? Haters, bro. Haters, trolls and me.

If you weren't an ISD, id inform you that calling the GD regulars "nerds" would more than likely end badly for you....

I find your post ironic. The forum was much more active back when the spreadsheeting neckbeards were busily responding to threads. While there have always been a fair share of trolls and malcontents (maybe a larger than usual share, I'll admit), there has always been plenty of good information being given out.

Over the past 18months or so, CCP has had a rather severe crackdown on anything and everything that might be considered trolling etc. There's some unpleasantness around, but all you have to do is go to EVE Search and look at this date two years ago to see how much it has changed. I suspect they did it precisely for the reason you bring up in your post. But even when the trolls are basically eliminated from the equation, like in the New Player subforum, the activity is way down (at least until the last week or so).

It isn't about the forum culture, it's about how many people are actually playing the game these days and how many of those are people in need of information on the forums. Personally, I think it's probably a good indicator that the majority of current players are old timers.

Strangely, your post is a bit troll-ish. Perhaps you should have a mod lock the thread.

Nah, the Eve subreddit is filled to the brim with bitter TEST members griping about how they got removed from nullsec. It's not informative at all.

EVE is a game about spaceships and there's an enormous amount of work to do on the in-space gameplay before players (or developers) are ready to sacrifice it for a totally new type of gameplay - CCP Rise

@Qalix:

The Mintchip Trollmageddon was a pretty severe throttling of forum activity. I blame that.

I was calling myself a nerd. As in, don't underestimate how much spam an ISD can deal with. Being a nerd is relevant because of reasons.
