PC Build Advice

Yet ANOTHER "is my build OK?" posting. This is my first from the ground up build. A few things that are set in stone about this due to my wishes and needs...Mainly a LAN build that can own EVE and some FPS.

The CPU is already purchased. No budging. This WILL be a Micro-ATX build for portability and once I build another, more beastly PC, this will be my LAN PC. The OS is also set in stone. No Win8. Yuch. Also, as more of a note, I already own a monitor same size, just adding a second one to the mix.
Otherwise, any and all advice or questions or pointers are welcome.

I hope you know that case you picked is a normal size mid tower case. If you want a smaller one for your micro atx motherboard look for a micro ATX mini tower. I saw you mentioned portability and thought of this.

650W powersupply is way overkill for your selected parts. You could getaway with a 500w (just not a cheap one) and that would still give you plenty of power for anything in the future. I personally prefer Seasonic.

Arctic Silver 5 is old and there is better non conductive stuff out there like "Arctic Cooling MX-2"

If you can afford it I would try and get a bit more powerful video card.

Yeah I am pretty aligned with Commissar Kate.

A smaller PSU would be OK. Just make sure you've got enough volts on the 12V rail for the GPU (if necessary), and I'd recommend 80+ certification. I run just 430 W (Core i5, Radeon 7850)

Also agree that a better GPU is a good idea. I've got a Radeon 7850 and it's good, EVE Online stays at 60FPS with everything maxed out except for AA which I leave on low,
if you were thinking of the 7770, well, if you could manage a 7870 in there ... that would kick a lot more bottom. The 7770 .... I kind of consider it a bit of a slouch already.

check it out, it's maybe twice the gpu - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1079?vs=1034 , and it seems to be about $75 more (if you go with the XFX dual fan model)

be interested to know what you go with.

Using an SSD for your OS install, instead of using the same drive you're going to be storing all your media on, would improve performance a lot.

Do you need a lot of storage? Removing the old HDD altogether and just using an SSD will make your PC lighter and quieter (not to mention it will run cooler and faster too), perfect for LANs and general mobility.

Looks good, I would buy a more powerful PSU in case you upgrade to Crossfire later which I fully vouch for in terms of FPS per $.

I.E. When my 780 can no longer perform fantasticly I will buy another and be set for another few of gpu generations. (If history repeats itself)

I agree with this, the 7850 is great. If you need to save money and can settle for not having a gigantic monitor, you can downsize to the 1GB version of the 7850, that's what I did. I have a 1360x768 monitor and EVE runs great with everything on max including AA.

Here's what I purchased a few weeks ago:

I have everything except the CPU upgrade, it's still the stock CPU that came with the prebuilt. Hoping to swap out later.

Also the PSU on my list is a great single-rail setup that is worth it.

I mine so you can have the fuel to run your POS.
