Throwback to this thread, and what this is about: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=205727

Saw this guy destroying random capsules at a popular newbie station, which he is apparently popular for:
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=warning&l=http%3a%2f%2feve.battleclinic.com%2fkillboard%2fcombat_record.php%3ftype%3dplayer%26amp%3bname%3dAlejandrom777&domain=battleclinic.com

He was in this ship, I think: https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Proteus
Easily tanked by a Cormorant...? Maybe. Considering the Proteus has only 100 HP Shield capacity, while the Cormorant has 900+ HP Shield capacity. Not to mention the gross lack of armor (100HP) the Proteus carries, versus the 700 HP beast of a Cormorant.

White knight? I just wanted an excuse for an easy kill, actually.

I came right at him in a fully loaded Cormorant, got up in his face, and opened fire with 5x 75mm Gatling Rails with Antimatter charges + Mjolnir light missiles... and he wound up running. I'm keeping an eye out for him, and hopefully I can do more damage next time. In other words: screw complaining, I'd rather just kill him. I contributed 1,000,000 ISK to his bounty, so hopefully I won't be the only one looking to scalp his ass. Anyone else have the pleasure of meeting this fine gentleman?

Looks like someone doesn't know how subsystems work.

AFAIK killing newbies or baiting them into an engagement outside the newbie/starter stations is a bannable offense.
Also, the Proteus is a T3 cruiser. T3 cruisers are assembled with subsystems, that are much like "removable rigs" in a sense, that determine the ships attributes. Even if he is active tanked, with no buffer whatsoever, you won't make a dent in his armor with your low skilled Cormorant (likely with a bad fit).

Just report him for newbie griefing and he'll be gone in a jiffy.

As Tippia stated, report him if he is griefing new players, especially if it's in a starter system. That is one thing CCP frowns upon a lot.

Do report him, but I have to give you major credit for saying screw it and just engaging the guy. You wouldn't have killed him but still. Good job.

Kudos for trying to engage in some PeeVeePee. That said, you've made several mistakes, not least massively misunderstanding how T3 ships work, leading you to assume they only have a ~1kHP tank.

TL;DR: Don't reply.

Welp. I'm lucky he didn't stick around to squash me then.

I like what the OP is doing.

We see the total count of subs for this game, which has been around for 10+ years, and is a great game, with upgrades that we don't have to pay for. But how come still a niche game?

Noob harvesters.

I know, people will say "better they learn before they have anything to lose". But is a noob getting popped so they can learn or is it happening so they can be pointed at and laughed at?

Real adults looking to play a GAME don't want to pay to babysit.

Sometimes there's suggestions to make a core starter zone to protect the noobs, but fears abound that such a zone would become infested with "super carebears".

Still, it's possible in the game mechanics to determine what kind of ship can go where, through gates and into mission rooms. So why not a scaling for combatant vessels into the higher security levels? If I was running an empire, and I have my holy of holy space at Security level 1.0, why only block criminals and capitals?

A solution is in there somewhere, but it would be cheaper to take matters into your own hands.

As for the standard complaint about noobs being immune to war decs - this is to prevent more gleeful alphatard noob harvesting. Sorry kids. But instead of making an NPC corp deccable it should be perfectly suitable that they declare war on each other from time to time. That would stir things up a bit.

ha_ha_ha

i suggest you actually learn how a strategic like a proteus does work.

it has subs, and once fitted, can achieve 800dps+ and a tank that a battleship would envy.

tldr; a destroyer will be cakewalk for it, they are among the hardest ship to kill solo

here is a "cheap" proteus: http://postimg.org/image/aq1pqq79b/

here is a less cheap but way more effective one: http://postimg.org/image/atp3nqrml/

for both, the subs are

Proteus Electronics - Friction Extension Processor
Proteus Offensive - Hybrid Propulsion Armature
Proteus Propulsion - Localized Injectors
Proteus Defensive - Augmented Plating
Proteus Engineering - Power Core Multiplier

and those are just with my skills, not even all 5 and one could add implants to further improve tank and / or dps

Wow, thank you for that information. I am a relatively new player with less than 2 months of experience, so thank you for taking the time to educate me.

Thread has been moved to Crime & Punishment. Also, it has been cleaned up of trolling, off-topic, and content-free posts.

If you believe this player is purposefully entrapping and harassing newbies, you can submit a support ticket to bring him/her to the attention of the GM team.

If you would like to confront him mano-a-mano instead, I recommend looking into what exactly a Proteus can do first. The posts so far in this thread are a good start. Information and being prepared are huge parts of PvP.

Convo me in game if you see this guy again. I'd be happy to help out and maybe get a nice kill mail. As people above me have said, t3's are fabulous solo ships, but depending on his fit, it may be possible to bait him.

Looked at the killboard (ugh battleclinic the 90s called and would like their HTML back) and I seriously doubt he ran because of legendary destroyer. More likely he had to go make a sammich than that.
