Thanks to Pinky, I now have an idea of how to solve this one.

Still have to get to grips with linear programming. However, compression looks to be a variation on the diet problem, which appears to be a fairly well documented problem, which should set me on the path to a solution Smile

As with many things, the first issue is formulating the question to ask. Now it's standing on other people's shoulders. (And having the time when I'm in the right mindset to actually work on it Blink)

Now to write a front end for it. (memo to self. throwing a thousand blueprints at it was probably a mistake)
