So people that actually log ingame are hardened a lot more? Just imagine Eve, being what it is, and forums filled with friendly comments. Wouldn't add up, would it? CCP love to see us fight, it seems :D

Laissez-faire. It's what we all love about EVE. Though if you want any kind of constructive advice, I recommend you not leave New Citizens Q&A.

Part of it is simple freshman hazing....

Part of it is an automated response to players that don't like the cold harsh universe that is EvE and actively attempt to change it into some happy utopia. This is a dystopia, and that is a major aspect of the game everyone should embrace!

Yeah, this is not a land of sunshine a lollipops, it is a cold harsh place and one needs to grow a thicker skin to be able to survive. Conflict drives this game, and words are one of the ways the conflicts are driven.

Just remember it is only a game and you should not take things personally.

Talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words, etc, etc.

Because we've seen it all before many times, and those sort of people just don't last in EVE, so we are brutally honest so that they don't waste anymore of their time or ours.

However EVE players are extremely helpful, and even generous, to those that show the right attitude.

Also "HTFU" is an unofficial EVE motto.

Fair enough.

Plus if everyone kicks sand at players so they leave, we can continue making fun of 'eve is dying' threads.

CCP. Why do you allow people to make useless threads on the forums?

If you want the real answer, post this question in GD.

Give it some time OP. You'll understand better when you have more experience under your belt (and have listened to a few whiners on audio).

EVE wants players that either kick sand back, or laugh with sand in their face, or manage to avoid the sand.

In my 5 years of EVE, I think I've seen one thread where a whiner changed into a winner.

your assumption is that eve would attract more players if we were all super nice and considerate. in reality, a change in policy would only estrange the established player base (you know, the one that is creating free advertisement by losing $300.000 in titans once in a while).

I should buy an Ishtar.

LOL. Yeah, I knew better than to try this question in that forum. Since it's the money in their pocket, I guess only CCP could give a real answer. I'm new at this game and it's something I haven't seen in any other businesses. I guess it's like a rugby bar where if you're not tough enough to fight your way in you're not going to be happy there.

Or maybe it's the Icelandic culture -- if you're going to complain that it's cold and dark you need to get out now.

It's CCP's vision to create a MMO that is different then the others. It's also why the playerbase it currently has is playing the game.

If CCP would change the game to be Hello Kitty In Space Online, it would also mean they will lose a fair amount of their current playerbase, some of which have been playing a very long time.

This.

Name any other MMO where $300k is lost in 24h of non stop fighting and makes multiple real life news sites.

Compared to most MMO forums you will also notice that their are very few "quitting/crying/" type posts here as well...
