Hi guys,

I am struggling in getting the two-med-slot combat interceptors (e.g. Claw or Crusader) to work for small scale PVP. The main problem I see is that they have short range weapons and once you are in scram range you completely lose range control due to your MWD being shut off. So is anybody using them with some success and willing to share his usage tactics with me?
Probably the best tactic is to NOT use your interceptor for dps. It's purpose is to tackle the target and hold it down for the dps ships to warp in and finish it off. Use your guns to fend off drones.

You can go all brawly with an interceptor and be successful. But at some point you'll run into somebody who isn't terrible, and then you'll have a dead intie.

Our 20 man intie gang did 8 bill of damage before we found a not terrible person that killed my claw.
although as we were doing 1 shot 1 kill (for kills we inflicted or kills inflicted upon us we had to down a shot) by this time it might not have been him that was good but me that could barely see the screen.
RIP Razor Mega you died bravely and well.
To OP i <3 my claws when we do intie gangs. If i want to fly as a scout/tackle i use my stiletto. I will can fly the amarr inties too but haven't tried them yet.
The stiletto is for pecking things to death/ holding them in place until help arrives. The claw is for quick kill and gtfo. If u think your prey has scram /web /neuts then solo tackling in a claw is not a great idea.
We killed a 2.5 bill golem in bastion mode that night so 20 inties can certainly pump out dps to kill things. he had 15 friends in local too.

I mean realistically inty's are not really solo ships. As a few have pointed out their purpose is to either kill other small fast crap dps ships or hero tackle a target until the fleet gets there ;). Picture this if you will: http://img4.picload.org/image/oodpdga/ayy_gun_fun.gif

loled at work. I've seen the gif. But not with the captions. Well done.

Is the claw good?

No, no it is not.

Actually, it's one of the better combat ceptors.

I always found it kind of underwhelming - the dps sucks balls. IMO, sader = ranis > claw >>> raptor

also combat inties are pretty great at killing other inties and also most frigates that are not AFs or sentinels.

Sader with just MWD and scram can work in low as you can project anywhere in scram range with scorch and do almost 200 dps or track anything that tries to orbit 500 due to the tracking bonus.

Both are superb solo inties in null since the nature of lasers/ACs mean that when they get tackle on an inty they can apply damage right away as opposed to a ranis which has to wait to get into optimal

Hey, Med, for the most part i've found the claw/crusader to be useful only in null, like Garviel Tarrant pointed out. The main issue is the lack of range control which again you've already mentioned. However, the claw can be used as anti-kiter platform quite well, given that it should be faster then any kiting frig. Think on the claw, if you need a ship, to kill silcers, lml crows, and crusaders. If, you want some fitting idea's ill throw something in this thread or shoot me an eve mail.
