Over the long term, it only goes up, so investing in plex would make you money if u left it for a while?

They trend up in periods where average ISK in circulation per player increases (i.e. most of the time).

They drop hard when CCP offers a big sale on them.

Long term, they have trended slowly upward.

There have been times in the past when PLEX has dropped for long periods, as when it hung at c. 250mil for a year or so, greatly upsetting those who had bought in at 300 or more. Of course, in the long term the price recovered but ...

There are two types of EVE player:

those who believe there are two types of EVE player and those who do not.

I have removed a rule breaking post.

The rules:
3. Ranting is prohibited.

A rant is a post that is often filled with angry and counterproductive comments. A free exchange of ideas is essential to building a strong sense of community and is helpful in development of the game and community. Rants are disruptive, and incite flaming and trolling. Please post your thoughts in a concise and clear manner while avoiding going off on rambling tangents.

It's kinda like the price of Gas. Only going up in the long run even though there are times when it goes down. However I do not recommend holding on to PLEX for any ammount of time as you might do something incredibly stupid....like undocking with it in your cargo hold. That's when the bad things happen.

PLEX only goes up. Except for when it goes down.

It actually goes down quite often... or at least often enough that the PLEX I'm consuming today was purchased at 500m/unit less than a year ago. When I run out of those, I'll be using PLEX that I purchased at 575m/unit about 3 months ago. Investing in PLEX can certainly pay off in the long term, if you buy wisely.

We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.

Do you remember the price you bought in at?

I've also had some success with the Timecode Bazaar, because the prices there can drift quite a way off the in-game price.

Its down to inflation the amount of isk flying around New Eden is always steadily increasing.
This devalues Isk and therefore plex price rises (becuase it real life monetary value does not change anywhere near as rapidly).

There will of course be short term fluctuations, such as plex sales or more recently the blind auction for the pvp tournament.
All those player wanting to play in the tournament will be buying plex right now to submit auction bids. Most of these players will be unsuccessful and this will create a lot of extra plex that people will want to sell (driving price down).

Long term though the price will never stop rising unless CCP;

a) take huge steps to reduce inflation (eg higher taxes)
b) reduce the real life monetary value of plex
