Lost a Dominix to gankers in about 5 minutes to a guy asking for help, then all his friends turn up and pew pew me Lol

The most annoying part is I have to fly to Jita and buy a new one Cry

Any tips on not being ganked or conversations to look out for that are certain ganks would be great.

Thanks in advance guys.

Avoid LowSec. Reduction of chance to become ganked narrow 95%.

But there is NO chance to never become ganked. Because some people are just crazy.
They fly to a trade hub and switch on their smartbombs near the station...
So if you have the pity and just undocked there - BANG.

So were you looking for fights or PVEing?

Either way the 1st rule should be obvious: Trust noone! - This is EvE dude.

If you're looking for fights, forget the Domi for now and start with Frigs. You'll lose tons at first til you get a feel for it and get to grips with the situational awareness you need, so keep it cheap for a while.

Also move your ships near to or just inside low in bulk. A low skilled hauler alt can carry 10 frigs with fitting per trip no prob.

If you were just in lowsec for the slots, then what were you doing in a giant, fat target like a Dominix that you couldn't have accomplished in something much cheaper and much faster like a t1 frigate?

Yes:

a guy asking for help + Low-sec = It's a TRAP

Rule 1 of EVE - Don't fly what you can't afford to lose.
Rule 2 of EVE - Never trust anybody, period.

You broke rule 2.

Wait.

You moved to low-sec for research slots and was doing that with a dominix?

May I ask why would you pick a ship that is such an easier target when there are many other ships that would be better tools for the situation?

EDIT:

Answered, derped by typing the reply but not hitting post.

Well, on your jump in, it warned you that you were entering "hostile" space.

Also, still, why the dominix when you could have brought something a bit smaller, more agile that should could have done the job.
As I can't think about much things that really NEED a dominix to do in low-sec.

Another tip is to NEVER compare EvE to other MMO's.

WoW will hold your hand and give you a cookie every level up to 55. Which is why loads get bored and leave.

Eve will make you work a solid month all on your own for your first cookie. Then kick you in the nuts and take that cookie, and laugh at you for thinking you could have a cookie at all.

- But you wont get bored.

I also use lowsec slots for industry (research and copying).

When I move BPOs around, I do so in super fast aligning small ships. Interceptors, shuttles or assault frigates. (Cov-ops frigates are good too but I don't fly them).

I have only ever twice taken a battleship into lowsec. Once was for a fleet operation where we wanted a ship with a rack of heavy energy neutralizers; the other time was to experiment with using a Dominix as bait.

Winning fights in lowsec requires either overwhelming force (ie capital ships) or the ability to pick and choose your fights. The battleship provides neither.

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com

Disclaimer: if your new, your a long ways from pulling this off. Think of it as things to look forward too.

Battleships can make great little high/low gate camp breakers. Big tank and heavy firepower. So not completely useless in low sec, but not an everyday boat out there.

Torp ravens are pretty handy here, as a lot of gate camps will figure you for a lost mission runner if they are not on the ball, until it's too late of course.

Just remember to insure it :) like most 1vMany situations, you will judge your performance on how many you brought down with you rather than if you got away :)

Mission-fit battleships are maybe the most sought after fantasy target in lowsec. Expensive lesson, but a common one :)

PvP fit cruisers and battle cruisers do wonderfully against low sec rats.

Another option is to convince some of your corpy's into moving out there with you.

Do both

Other MMOs give you a cookie. EVE smashes the cookie jar over your head, and laughs while you pick up the pieces. Or something.

One day I will have a blog. Be thankful that day isn't today.

OK, 1 year old character that takes domi for lowsec ratting and falls for "help me" convo trap? C'mon...

But on rare occasion that is not a troll:
- do not fleet with people you don't know
- do not help people you don't know
- do not trust people you don't know

Basically as a lowsec or pvp or general newbie you are not able to really help anybody so safe yourself a hassle and do not engage in anything you have no idea how it works and how you may get exploded as a result. And if anybody got into trouble in lowsec they either baiting or really messed up so frakk them, if genuine maybe they will learn if not why should you bother?

Yeahhh... dump the giant neon billboard of a ship screaming "GANK ME - GANK ME - OH PLEEEEEASE GANK MEEEEE!!!" and train a tengu or some sort of cov-ops ship at home in low sec. Some cruiser or interceptor or somethin. You're driving an ice cream truck...
