[New Tech 2 Frigates] Remote Assistance Frigates

Electronic Attack Frigates received a well deserved buff in Rubicon 1.0. They were hardly used before then and now I see at least one every time I fly through FW space. The EAF changes were a resounding success. Now that we have a group of frigates with extreme bonuses to electronic warfare, I think it only right that there should be an opposing group with bonuses to remote assistance modules.

In choosing what type of remote assistance to assign to each race, I first considered the (tech 1) electronic warfare used by their primary enemies.

EWAR Types
  • Caldari - ECM
  • Amarr - Tracking Disruption
  • Gallente - Remote Sensor Damping
  • Minmatar - Target Painting

  • Factions' Primary Enemies
  • Caldari - Gallente
  • Amarr - Minmatar
  • Gallente - Caldari
  • Minmatar - Amarr

  • With that in mind, I made the following decisions about which factions should receive bonuses to which forms of remote assistance. Each faction gets a ship with bonuses to the type of remote assistance that will directly counter the form of electronic warfare used by their primary enemy.

  • Caldari - Remote Sensor Boosters
  • Amarr - Remote Electronic Signature Shroud
  • Gallente - Remote ECCM
  • Minmatar - Remote Tracking Computers

  • So without further ado, here are the ship bonuses I am suggesting:

    CALDARI Remote Assistance Frigate
    Caldari Frigate Skill: 5% bonus per level to optimal range of Remote Sensor Boosters.
    Remote Assistance Frigate Skill: 5% bonus per level to strength of Remote Sensor Boosters.
    Role Bonus: 100% penalty to Remote Sensor Booster falloff range.

    AMARR Remote Assistance Frigate
    Amarr Frigate Skill: 5% bonus per level to optimal range of Remote Electronic Signature Shroud.
    Remote Assistance Frigate Skill: 20% bonus per level to strength of Remote Electronic Signature Shroud modules.
    Role Bonus: 100% penalty to Remote Electronic Signature Shroud falloff range.

    GALLENTE Remote Assistance Frigate
    Gallente Frigate Skill: 10% bonus per level to optimal range and activation cost of Remote ECCM modules.
    Remote Assistance Frigate Skill: 10% bonus per level to effectiveness and optimal range of Remote ECCM modules.
    Role Bonus: 100% penalty to Remote ECCM falloff range.

    MINMATAR Remote Assistance Frigate
    Minmatar Frigate Skill: 20% bonus per level to optimal range of Remote Tracking Computers.
    Remote Assistance Frigate Skill: 5% bonus per level to Remote Tracking Computer effectiveness.
    Role Bonus: 100% bonus to Remote Tracking Computer optimal range.

    Now these ships could obviously be used to buff friendly ships in the absence of hostile EAFs. Thus, they need some significant drawbacks. My suggestions would include: large sig radii, poor capacitor performance, low speed. Most significantly though, they should not have the falloff bonuses for their remote assistance modules. This will force them to stay close to the fight in order to render assistance.

    I suggest that the models for these ships should be T2 variations of the existing T1 logistic frigates. Remote assistance is a very "logisticsy" thing and also, those models already exist! They used to be the stealth bomber models before bombers got their own unique models.

    So they'd be a nightmare to balance and mainly used in gatecamps? Bleh.

    One of these bonuses on each of a T2 Logi Frig might be interesting, probably a range bonus given the ship and how strong Rebos/Remote ECCM already are.

    Like you I'd like to see these remote modules get more use but more Falcon-esque ships that veer between utterly OP or utterly worthless doesn't seem too fun.
