Rampant Consumerism. In my EVE?!? *shock*horror*

IMHO, the future direction of EVE is "rampant consumerism." Consumerism occurs when you have to buy things to stay relevant. The opposite of consumerism would be ships and modules that never cost anything after you buy them (i.e. no crew salaries, no feul costs, no depreciation from "wear and tear", etc.)

In the old days, we had had ships and implants to replace on a periodic (daily?) basis, but even then that was relatively minor in the grand scheme of things.

Nowadays, we have seen powerful ASBs that require cap boosters (i.e. consumables), AARs that require nanite paste (which requires paying NPC/player taxes,) and very recently we've seen an uptick in "deployables", along with new "everything overheats and requires repair costs (and if you don't overheat, you're been nerfed)!" proposed module changes. Additional examples of things that require consumables are invention, mining crystals, etc..

It is obvious that CCP has (finally!) realized that a) blatant, crass, unbridled greed, microtransactions annoyeth the playerth baseth mightedly-eth, and b) that consumables are the new black microtransactions but without the Jita Monument vandalism.

Let's help CCP out here. What are the activities that you do currently that can benefit from "rampant consumerism"?

My ideas:
* scripts are used like ammo in things such as TCs, i.e. they're disposable one-shot items (*cough*disposable diapers*cough),
* disposable scripts for hacking/archeology,
* ship crew with benefits (and by benefits I mean bonuses, you pervs!)
* module wear and tear (you need to pay to keep your modules at 100% efficiency),
* mission agents that take you for granted and start to lower their payouts because it would take too much effort to switch agents,
* a CSPA charge to post on the forums, (grr! forum whores unite!)
* docking/undocking fees, (Scotty needs to wet his beak too!)
* Bastion module requiring fuel of some sort (seriously, is CCP even aware of the MARII Paladin for Level 4s?)
* ammo for drones, especially sentries!
* plex for beer.... (but only because my wife made me order and then quickly drink a Long Island Ice Tea before leaving because the kids were starting to melt down the restaurant, I should marry my wife, oh wait)
... what else?

Bad ideas:
* Logistics in minutia, such as
** ships requiring fuel,
** crew requiring food
** getting crew into wormholes to crew ships

inb4 MISSIONS.

If a miner gets ganked several times, loses his ship (and concord shows up each time) concord will stop showing up after the 5th gank sending this msg to the player:

**** Tyrone, Get It Together!

OR
Disable concord

Concord Script: On illegal suicide gank concord will seek retribution (just like now)
cost: 500 million or 1 Plex, must be kept in ship bay to be used.
item drops.

Forum Script: enables one forum post
cost: 1 Plex.

What bonus do exotic dancers give to a ship?

Also:
* Research labs require scientists to run

It's not just consumerism you forgot to mention the fact that we will all be so busy micromanaging these things we won't be able to do anything else. Because I really enjoy sitting in lo-sec in a mission fit ship trying to finish off a plex managing my drone agro, managing my ships agro, all while hitting the d-scan constantly to make sure someone isn't trying to sneak up on me.

So I'd certainly love more things to micromanage like overheating my TP just to get the same effect I used to get before the nerf. Or overheating my other modules and applying nanite paste every cycle. Sounds like a great plan and wonderful future for eve. Micromanagement online. Woohoo! Sign me up! Roll

I say, meh. While normally I would have a completely trollish response, this time I won't. Because I am tired of seeing the game I love tarnished and bastardized consistently by people who honestly, I feel like, are simply running out of ideas and legitimate creativity.

Let them run it into the ground.

Then they can be remembered as the independent developer that thought they could operate like EA and consistently ****-over the player base at every single turn.

I mean, after all, that is a far better legacy than creating a MMO that lasts, say, twenty years or hell, even thirty years. Roll

So let it burn. CCP doesn't give a damn, and any dissension will just be locked, so honestly....who gives a ****?

Once you realize what a joke everything is, being the comedian is the only thing that makes sense.

Or of course, CCP could be listening to the part of the player base who wanted the ability to overheat such modules. And it's not rampant consumerism, but healthy economy to have consumables that are cheap as a part of combat.

Mobile warp disruptor and cap boosters didn't exist before this patch. Wait a minute.

I mean honestly this isn't new, it was built into the game at launch. I'm willing to bet that the combined worth of all the drones abandoned during fights in the last two hours probably cost more than the deployables that have been blown up or abandoned for the entire day.

But the real crime here is that I can't pick the brass up from my autocannon and take it home to the reloading bench, because argle bargle this is a stupid thread.

Your ship doesn't have a crew. It's just you in your pod, running everything with cables and wires and tubes coming out of your pee pee and whatnot. Mentally.

Why do you think taking drugs boosts your shields or damage?

I just undocked for the first time and someone challenged me to a duel. Wat do?

Actually, only shuttles and some choice frigates require no crew for capsuleers. Anything bigger than that still requires crew. It's in the Eve lore wiki.

That said, the Eve books are filled with capsuleers flying ships with no crew. In Templar One, a Gallante capsuleer flies a damn Dread with no crew.

The reason Eve is a dark and dangerous place is precisely because the model is capitalist in economic design and libertarian in ruleset. This is CCP making a vivid demonstration about why the Ayn Rand far right libertarians are insane to want this in the real world while making a fun game.
A fair and peaceful society requires far left economics with a libertarian political system (Russia was far left authoritarian before anyone misidentifies me as communist).
Consumerism being the aim of capitalism as well as game design promoting player interaction butterfly effects is however why we play and why the different apects of eve are so engrossing.
