Gaining Faction Standing in FW?

So I thought I had read that defensive plexing gives faction standing and offensive plexing gives LP.. but that would appear to not be the case. Is there a mechanic to gain faction standing while doing FW type things? It would seem silly if there isnt.. but I cant find any info on the web... How can I gain standing with my faction doing FW?

1) You will only gain faction standing when you get a promotion (go up a rank).

2) Getting promotions can be done by raising your standings towards the FW NPC corp.

3) Gaining standings towards the FW NPC corp can be done by plexing (defensive or offensive) in your own warzone or by running missions for your FW NPC corp (=FW missions).
