Today I tried exploration for the first time(Prior I was mining, manufacturing and running PVE)

I was exploring in high-sec now I have been told many times the loot is not worth it but I came across a relic site(I'm pretty sure)
and ended up getting a BPC for a small pirate tower which I then sold for 100Mil ISK my main question is was this just a very lucky day for myself or do people find these quite abit?Shocked

Gratz on the find.

I'm gonna think outside the box and say you had a lucky day.

Anyone telling you high sec exploration isn't worth it is an idiot, you can make lots and lots of cash even in a simple destroyer as a 1 week old character and once you get into bigger ships you can do the more difficult sites and make even more cash.

Having said that, data/relic exploration doesn't pay much on average in high sec and you have to be really lucky, doing combat exploration IS very worthwhile.

No way to say, it's really based on luck and all. When I say luck, I mean luck. Anyway, sitting duck in a 500mil explorer it better dish out 100m isk items sometimes, rain them down! :P But yeah, sometimes spend days and days with just absolute junk, then suddenly have 100m isk item jump at you, not out of the unordinary.

It's not about the bounties, it's about the fancy loot. Don't bother with drone or anomaly sites in high sec as they pay quite a bit less on average. Go for DED 1/10 to 3/10 and Hideouts and Lookouts, once you get a much better ship you can do 4/10 and Watch or Vigil sites. Trust me, it pays really really well.

Well those sites can have better drops is all. When you get further into the game 200k will be near nothing while common to have 1m bounty just on one npc rat among many with him. But some combat sites found by probing can drop items worth over 1b. That's b as in billion.

Exploration is extremely random. That said, hisec exploration is perfectly good income for a new player - good, even.

Prior to some patch in the past few months, some vets would farm the DED combat complexes with t3 cruisers which gave hisec exploration a reputation as being a high-return income source for veterans with pimped ships. That was since removed.

Hisec exploration is still profitable, but not nearly as much as lowsec/nullsec exploration.

How is it different, is there some sort of modifier that increases what can be found in null/low when compared to high?

Basically combat exploration sites have a rating from 1-10. This describes difficulty as well as drop rates. 1/10-4/10 appear in high sec. 5/10 and 6/10's appear in low and the rest only appear in null sec. 4/10's are actually pretty decent, but they're quite a bit harder than the other high sec sites, and can be kinda hard to find. If you move to low theres 5/10's and 6/10's all over the place.

Hisec combat sites pay plenty. They're just a pain to run because of all the ship size restrictions. So when I feel the itch to do some hisec exploring what I usually do is pack an explorer frigate and three or four combat ships (various sized) into my Orca and use it as a sort of mobile mission platform. Keep me from having to run all the way back home every time I run I need to grab a bigger/smaller ship to run a site.

All types of sites are different in low/null as compared to high. They tend to be harder (but also allow bigger/shinier ships in the case of combat sites), and pay out more.
