Im Caldary and im very new at this game, i was looking around and found that Dread ships were dead.

Did CCP fixed it ?

Worth wasting time trying to pilot one?

Should i go for a Chimera instead?

I love BIG ships, im looking for PVE and PVP with those BIG ships, so any advise on this would be nice.

Thanks.

Bigger is not always (and rarely) better. Learn to fly first, and have some fun. If you get into a large null corp, worry about carriers and supers after you get the basics and support skills down.

Second, it's Caldari, not Caldary.

you should setup EveMon and pick one of the capitals you want to pilot, and take a look at how long it will be JUST to be able to SIT in one, much less fit and fly effectively.

i would pick a subcap ship you like and focus on piloting that ship really well, then fill in the gaps as necessary. Since the big ships can only be pilotied in low/null space, you're not going to be doing any highsec pve in them and without proper support, capitals are juicy targets.

by the time you're ready to fly one phoenix dread fleet will be the new meta.

If you can get past the fact that you'll never hit anything NOT webbed and painted to hell and back, and that you fire nearly five times slower than turret dreads.

Can you hear them? They are calling to us. It is beautiful. http://thegreattichim.wordpress.com/

you can log into test server and fly any capital you want for 100isk, assuming you have the skills there. thats good place to mess round, and you will see that capital ships are very, very limited in what they can do.

the best ship to fly is a cruiser, imho.

If you have enough webs on your lokis you can blap cruiser hulls with dread (4-8webs + 4TPs). For wormhole play dreads are still only ship which gets that insane isk/hr ratio for cap escallations. Very useful for structure bashing also but thats boring.

Yes I still think that bigger is better if you know how to capitalize on its advantages and overcome disadvantages.

Do you have enough experience to decide on what type of PVP/PVE you want? Nullsec blobs, Small gang, FW blobs, HS blobs, wardecks, WH, suicide ganking, etc etc... Dreds take a while to skill into, so first find out what you want to use it in.

Secondly, Join a player corp, one that can support you in your quest for the large wieners, some duders will even help you to afford these VERY costly ships. Pick wisely......

Lastly how on earth do you misspell the first word in your own corp...

Hey sky, get back to work! U 2 cips....

Big ships... also in wormholes... It makes me feel sad when you leave wormholes out of things Sad

I always feel some sorrow for not being available to fly some dreadnought in high security systems, because as a solitary pilot there is no point for me to even go out of that "safe" space zone.
Although that was fixed in Rubicon with upgrading marauders to use the same battle method, it is not entirely the same, just because marauders still are only small battleships.
So, the only option is to admire the picture of dreadnought in a preview window apart from increasing online time and joining some big null/wh corp.
Anyway, the point of this situation I see beyond the game balance is that capital ships are really not something that sole pilots should fly without a fleet guarding them.

Well this case is about to give something to get something, if we want to fly those big ships we have to do it with support and giving it too, forgetting solo play, I'm a solo pilot too.
