Concorded why?

A friend of mine got concorded and lost his ship. He does not know why though. There was nothing in his chat logs or game logs about it and we were wondering if there is a way to find out for sure. As of now we can only speculate. Thanks.

I'm betting on fiddling with the safety and then shooting at a can.

IIRC you can't commit an offence that will get you Concorded with the safety set to green. Please feel free to dispute this if you know better.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

You cannot get CONCORDOOKENED without a Crimewatch red card, and you cannot earn one of those if your safety is set to yellow (or green).

The most likely scenarios for getting CONCORDOOKENED unexpectedly are:

- Providing remote assistance (remote repairs, remote ECCM, etc) to someone that has a red card
- Shooting a wreck you do not own
- Detonating a smartbomb in highsec and accidentally hitting a wreck/player/pod/gate gun/whatever
- Shooting a fleet mate that isn't in your corporation
- Illegally podkilling someone in low sec (earning a red card which doesn't mean all that much in low), then entering highsec while you still have your red card
- Undocking in a ship while you still have a red card (often done deliberately in rookie ships to cause CONCORD to move)

He died because his safety was not set to green in high sec.

Yeah, happens. Got the same last night when a killright click didn't proprly activate when I thought it did. CONCORD is a no-variation mechanic: you lose your ship, period. It kind of sucks, a little mistake (any illegal agression) will see you killed instantly.

The best solution is to stay out of hisec as much as possible, or use the new 'safety' features when you are not explicitly suicide ganking. I've been CONCORDed twice this week, due to an oversight on my own part. It's always because of an illegal act of agression, so retrace your steps!

Oh, your friend should check his Character Sheet > Killrights. If he has one against him he obviously has agressed illegaly. He may also have shot a wreck that didn't belong to him, or attacked a station / gate / CONCORD NPC by accident.

Actually it's quite simple:

1. He turned his safety system from Green (impossible to get suspect or criminal aggression flag) to Red (anything goes).
2. He locked up something he had NO right to shoot at - In high-sec it's anything that hasn't got:

A. A limited engagement against you.
B. A duel active with you.
C. Is in the same player corp as you.
D. Is at war with your player corp.

In low-sec you only get a criminal flag for shooting pods without legal reason, but then you only get concorddokkend if you jump back into high-sec with your ship while the Criminal flag is still active.

3. He shot said person without a legal reason.
4. He experienced the end result.

Reminds me of a dude I was doing incursions with the other day - before I know it concord shows up at an incursion site and ganks him. Turns out he:

a) had taken his safety off green and
b) forgot to turn off auto-target back.

So his ship automatically locked me when I locked him (I was flying logi), and he must have misclicked and shot me instead of the rat.

This could be what your friend did, too. Turn off auto-target. It's baaad, mmkay? lol

My guess he took safety off and attacked someone without provocation.

Ooh the amount of times I have had to scream to people in null that they should take their F-ing auto target off can't be counted anymore.

Eventually me and 2 others who flew mainly logi just made a list who was too dumb to listen and eventually didn't rep them anymore because we knew he would shoot the logi if we did.

Green is too restrictive and doesn't offer much more safety than yellow.

Remember, green still allows you to initiate limited engagements by shooting a suspect.

I see little point to flying on green in highsec. In low, it has niche uses if you are travelling point-to-point and will always be in range of gate or station guns.

As I have no intention of doing anything illegal, green is ideal for me.

It still allows me to initiate limited engagements by shooting a suspect/criminal.
