Moving Station Containers

I sincerely apologize if this is in the wrong place but the forums do not make it obvious where to put it.

I have purchased some station containers in order to segregate my stuff for easy finding and now have decided to pick up and relocate to a new station. I cannot put an assembled station container into any ship without repackaging it, but these containers do not allow me to repackage them due to some issue with inactivity being less than 3 months. I do not want to wait 3 months without touching my containers before I can move them. Is there a way or just suck it up?

They are pretty cheap. Just abandon them and get new ones at the new place. Sometimes I'll pick mine back up if I am roaming through the area in a cargo ship some months later. If I forget, it's not a huge loss... maybe 5 minutes worth of missioning to recoup.

Station containers (as well as vaults and warehouses) fall into the Audit Log Container group, and they have a 3 month audit trail which means they can't be repackaged before 3 months after the last entry.

All I do is rename them to something like 'Empty 04/01/14' for example so you know it's Empty and when you can come back and pick it up.

Your only other option is to use the Freight Container types, but it depends how much stuff you want to store, the largest is the Enormous Freight Container which has a 250,000m3 capacity, can be repackaged any time, and they're only 2,500m3 when repackaged. Plus if you've got a freighter you can move them around assembled with contents in.

@Gianath: I think you are right that abandoning may be the best option. They are 35K ISK each (approx) where I get them and that is child's money. My only reason for wanting to move them really is to get them out of the way, so abandoning seems fine with me.

@Chic: I don't understand why 'audit' type containers even have this must remain active requirement. It makes no sense to me. I do not have big ships capable of carrying more than ~22.5K m3 yet as I'm only a couple months in so these station containers have been relatively conenient. I might just use those purely for loot bags and use the smaller containers for things like my collection of military dogtags or skillbooks I can't use yet.

They were designed so a corporation might have some way of tracking who is taking/stealing things from them. Nice in theory, it just doesn't work in the real world to prevent corp losses. The only way to really prevent corp assets from being plundered is for everybody to stay in a one-man corp, but that's neither good for business, nor the thing that hilarious blogs are made of.

When I need to get rid of these containers I re-name them to 'Faction Shield Boosters'. Then open a trade with a random person in the station, drop the containers in and click accept. Most people dishonestly try to take advantage of my mistake and take the empty containers of my hands.
