And WAY too many of the wife's special chocolate cherry bars.

From the other side of the pond or way further down south, we are stuffing ourselves with all kinds of baked meats, poultries and cakes (salty and sweet) to tell you yes, that happens down here too.

I am sick of eating awesome delicious ethnical traditional foodstuffs but I know I will crave it once more in January Big smile

I have gained some kilos too Big smile

Yeah... but you gotta tell her to keep it coming, Christmas is suppose to last for 12 DAYS! From Dec into Jan, 12 days of Christmas. So if she stopped feeding you already, you should dump coal on her heh... unlit.

We rather keep it simple in Catalonia.

The main meal is lunch time of the 25th, not dinner.

First course was our Christmas soup (Escudella de Nadal amb carn d'olla), a substance known for its difficulty to flow at cold temperatures due to a extremely high viscosity. It is made of vegetables, potatoes, chickpeas, poultries (usually hen breast and chicken drumstick), cow bones, ham, blood sausage (only the last 2 minutes) and a kind of giant meatball made of pork, veal, onion and parsley (roughly 300 grams per meatball). The vegetables and meats are boiled for a minimum of 3 hours, minus the blood sausages and the giant meatballs ("pilota") which are added late and removed so they don't overcook.

This dense soup is served with a local pasta specialty, "galets de Nadal".

Second course was two large veal rounds, with dry plums and pine nuts.

Deserts were Christmas specialties, "mantecados" (small cakes made of flour, almond and lard), "polvorones" (a kind of shortbread) and different kinds of turron (funny, didn't knew the English word was taken straight from Spanish).

The veil rounds were completely eaten on the 27th. The part of soup that wasn't freezed was finished on the 28th. And tomorrow we will thaw some more soup...Lol

Ooooh, Xmas dinner for us...

Staying with friends on the other side of the country. We had Sheppards Pie made with plenty of fresh veggies and bison. For dessert, I made homemade cheesecake with Blackberry Amaretto glaze.

Afterwards, spiked egg nog and cookies!

Roast lamb, mashed taters with garlic butter, green beans, and Yorkshire puddings with red onions and mushrooms in the gravy.

And mead, the honey from our orchard hives was good this year.

Everything except the mushrooms and the flour for the YP's we grew/raised on our own lands.

Best wishes to All.
