All fun and games until a gnome starts shuffling around in front you.

Then what? Where's your precious science then?

The way to attract them is to put little shiny prizes for them out in your garden. Beads, marbles, or shiny new coins are good.

First, what an insanely beautiful country.

Second, I never found these beliefs to be particularly weird comparatively speaking. I mean, after all, the rest of this world believes in virgin births, angels, ascensions to heaven, parting seas and elephant gods.

You think that is strange?

Probaly not as bad as a certain country where half the population believes that mankind was created by a divine being.

There is only one true divine being, may you be blessed by the touch of his noodley appendages.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

One out 10 isn't bad. Around 7 of 10 Americans believe God is a white man.

Underpants Gnomes.

They are real.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

I eated panacakes this morning just because of this thread. I went to bed last night craving them.

Well as a long time researcher of tribal beliefs and customs involving "magic" , witchcraft and spirits in Latinamerica, I can honestly tell you, the act of believing and sacrificing items that "resonate" with the spirit in question is very common today and pretty much alive.

Can´t go as a far as the boundaries of specific countries, but in the countries I have visited it´s pretty normal to find shrines to many local deities and spirits, and gifts left overnight consisting of foods and drinks plus tobacco.

Don´t see why people are surprised to know that places as far north as Iceland people still believe in Elves.

Heck I believe in much weirder stuff than elves, and I am a white male caucasian with a college degree and several certificates (one of them able to issue gun ownership mental stability certificates and another Mental Health Certificates for Industry labor in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela) , plus I have traveled and made acquaintances with several Piaches and Mojans (witch doctors and shamans) of Local ethnic tribes in Venezuela like the Wayuu and Yanomami ...

And you dont see me raving in the streets screaming about demons telling me to kill people by stabbing them in the eyes. I am a pretty regular guy Lol

It´s pretty normal stuff, and honestly, they are still very much alive and demonstrate very profound religious concepts plus cultural beliefs that are in my opinion worth of study and attention, preservation even, considering the encroachment of modern religions destroying the "old ways".

I actually enjoy seeing Icelandic folk still believing in such things and organizing their gardens, even some of their roads according to these customs.

Cheers!

If 1 in 10 Icelanders believes in elves, then 1 in 10 Australians believes in dropbears.

But do the icelanders have the elf/fairy equivalent of our Creationism Museum?

"The state-of-the-art 70,000 square foot museum brings the pages of the Bible to life, casting its characters and animals in dynamic form and placing them in familiar settings. Adam and Eve live in the Garden of Eden. Children play and dinosaurs roam near Eden’s Rivers."

No? Amateurs.

Iceland has a phallic museum instead. Hard to beat that one.

What's so hard about beating a phallus? Even a kid can do it.
