Is it worth it to put up a high sec research/manufacturing POS?

Why would you pay the wardec fee so you can have some targets in hisec?

Put up a hisec pos instead. Your targets will now pay for the right to be killed by you.

It is good bait, but has no other value.

Crime, it is not a "career", it is a lifestyle.

For invention and/or BP copy its a must. For ME research it is "better" to use existing research services that other players offer. For all other its better and cheaper to use stations.

Setting up pos for research is worth it if you need to do either of two things or both: ME-research or serious scale copy/invention work.

Also dont keep bpo´s in pos, keep then in corp office in same systems as pos -> remote reseach. This way bpo´s dont drop if someone shoots down your pos.

Personally i have alt corp that has standings to anchor highsec pos when i need it. Handy thing when i have few new bpo´s to research. Setup small caldari tower, slab 3 labs on it, fuel for month, strontium and you can run it about 100 mil/month fuel costs.

How do you use "existing research services that other players offer"?

Based on my rough calculations, decreased manufacturing time in POS can pay for monthly fuel costs of a small POS.
Am I missing something? I assumed T1 production and running slots 23/7.

If you're making 300 million a month profit manufacturing, then running a small pos should pay for itself. Assuming the market can absorb your increased production.

That 0.75 time modifier equates to a 33% increase in materials produced.

If you're making more, then it's all gravy.

Woo! CSM XI!

It can be but it turns out not worth it. Our corp ran one for ages, created our own starbase fuel through PI mined our ice tried too be self sufficient. So they screwed up ice (completely removed it from the system we set up in and bots rule ice now), let mega corps tax our PI (screw them) and made it impossible too compete in any way with them, and basically profits fell and effort increased, dropped much of research, powered down one station, found ourselves working hard to power a non profitable larger station and battling for ice with tards with 20 boting accounts. Screw it, we quit. They need to just get rid of Hi-Sec all together because the nerfs are killing it anyway. And totally f*** mega corps being able too tax me for factories we set up years ago, the rich get richer......

I'm a returning player. I took a a year off. Now that I'm back I'm finding it nearly impossible to get any research done with que that are over a month long. This has me thinking of setting up a high sec POS. Is it worth it?

If you have a plan worked out for what you want to accomplish, sure, it's worth it. But don't barrel in just because it sounds cool, or you'll lose a lot of isk needlessly. Make sure you know your market, know your neighborhood, and have the correct skills trained up to absolutely MINIMIZE your waste. Anything else is just a waste of time.

If all one is doing is PE/ME research, the best option is to join a research alliance like the now defunct NER (New Eden Research). I was with them for nearly a year before being in a position to throw up my first tower, and haven't looked back since.

Our Alliance offers help to people in corps to join and do research for a cost that is not too bad for the short time or longer as they require.
