Where in null sec are you guys??? looks interesting

I used to be in this corp so I thought I'd post my own mini review of the corp to hopefully give potential applicants a broader view of the corp beyond the advert.

Firstly the good....

The general member base is a great bunch of guys/girls, very friendly and a lot of chat/banter on the corp TS server. Its a mixture of EU/US timezones but there is sometimes an overlap between the two.

The corp has a very good website/portal (I think the CEO is a website developer by profession) that allows members to keep track of mining events, place orders for items they want jumped up from Jita - but uses a "points" system where you convert ISK to 'LCP' (Lom Corp Points) (or be "paid" in LCP from mining op) and then you can spend these points on 'store orders'. Prices are very good for 0.0 (only slightly above Jita prices + small fuel charge for JF).

The corp has its own home system in an isolated part of 0.0 which is reasonably secure. Intel channels give you good notice on any roaming neuts that may come through. Engagements are with small neut gangs only.

If you like solo mining you can make a lot of ISK. The corp has good fleet boosters available at almost all hours. They also run a couple of 'events' where you can group mine (for personal ISK profit) and corp will assign security (sometimes) and station hauling for you. You get paid based on time spent in op - regardless of what mining 'level' you are at. Corp takes a cut (% amount I am unsure of - my guess is about 20%).

Ore you mine solo is sold back to corp at reasonable prices (after tax).


Now the bad.....

If you are expecting corp/alliance warfare - forget it. You are there to mine mine mine.... LOM is part of a 'renter' alliance and as such don't expect any big pew pew apart from waiting for the odd neut gang to appear. In the 7 weeks I was there the corp didn't run a single roaming gang. They also lost more than they won when neuts came in.....36% efficiency.

You also can't get rich by making and selling your own stuff in 0.0 - corp policy is that you can only sell on market at Jita+10% maximum. Anyone caught selling things above this line are named/shamed and kicked for any repeat offence.

Ore that you mine (and don't refine to build with) needs to be sold to corp with about a 20% tax rate. Prices are reasonable but sometimes there is a delay in payment (you use the corp portal to place a "buy back" contract to match an in-game contract you make to CEO).

There is a small 'inner circle' of a few players (who have history together in other corps) who make all the decisions about the corp, you will have 0% input on corp decision making (nor will you be even asked your opinion). Changes are just communicated as new "doctrine". Most members have zero hanger/wallet access (not even view) so you have no idea if the corp is "paying" you the correct amount for these mining ops - nor if any of the corp directors are "dipping" to line their own ISK wallet.

The CEO generally doesn't turn up at the corp mining ops - and if he does he just turns up in a pvp ship and pisses about shooting orbiting drones left out by a corp miner or shooting random fleet members for fun (never into structure or anything) - he's "in fleet" for this - so I assume gets a ISK cut of the mining profit (maybe he doesn't - corp never said either way).

There is one mandatory corp op a week - and if you miss it (for whatever reason - simply forgot, had to work late, death in family, kid sick, internet down etc...) you will be fined about 40M ISK (by way of a "Quota" of ore (e.g. 20000 Spod) that must be delivered to the corp CEO within 5 days). Failure to deliver or refusal to deliver the 'Quota' = kicked.

NOTE: Recruiters don't always mention this "Quota" (mine didn't) and its not mentioned on their website. First I knew of it was when I missed just one corp op (I had a RL emergency that day - but CEO didn't bother to ask why I missed the op) - saw the "Quota" penalty notification from CEO by eve-mail when I next logged in - but I refused to pay on principle and questioned its fairness, so CEO kicked me immediately. Nice.

CEO is a bit of a tool to be honest. Buys into his own hype.


Summary.....

So if you are happy to just mine.....and mine....and mine....and you also don't mind being told when you must mine - LOM corp is great.

If like me you see EVE as a game for some fun/pew pew (as well as some mining) and not just a 2nd job (and unpaid job at that lol), avoid. The way LOM is setup with the whole "worker bee" mentality and obfuscation on what ORE is collected on each op plus the idea of "LCP" in general......it all had the feeling of a mini pyramid scheme setup just to keep the ISK flowing to the inner circle..... who knows maybe we were all paying for their PLEX's :-(

I am glad I am out.

I won't add too much but I have to say this is one of the best corps out there. We do tons of mining, have great times together. There is definitely an international flare. This is wonderful and is nice to get a different perspective on the world. You can do as much PVP as you like but we are primarily a mining corp.

As for the complaint above about not being able to "rip off" your corp mates, well - no comment. I am not sure that he will find a corp that takes kindly to this type of behavior.

As for the buybacks, taxes, etc. Let me just say that you will make BILLIONS so don't worry about that. As for the mandatory op it's only once per week, and if you cannot make it yes there is a quota.

Living in nullsec is expensive. The maintenance of the infrastructure is not cheap. This is the tradeoff. However, there are 2 times (EU and US) so you are bound to be able to make one of them.

If you want to mine, manufacture and earn lots of ISK come join us. If you want to rip off your corp mates, be rude, and not enjoy the company of a diverse group, then you may want to look elsewhere.
