Ok so I read an article that would pertain most to sentry drones but what I took away from it was I need to be able to target the enemy with my ship while needing the drone to be within optimal range and both on the drone and my ship being in my control range...can I get a confirmation on this.

Now the main question is......if I assign my sentry drones to another ship....we will say a t3 cruiser for argument sake..do the drones still need to be in the targeting and drone control range of the mother ship of the drones?

Yes - if your drones only have 45km control range and a target is 50km from you and 30km from the cruiser they have been assigned to they will not attack.

Control range = Distance from you to what you want the drones to attack.

Optimal range = distance from drones to what you want them to attack. Try for optimal + 1/2 falloff at most.

Thank you for the precise response. Now with fighters how do they exactly work....I know they chase people if they go into warp but what about if say for some silly reason I targeted a center with fighters and the center just burns out forever.......will the fighters follow? With the bonus of 200% to drone control range on fighters from carriers I wanna say no but idk.

I'm not certain the carrier bonus applies, as I've never tested it. Even if it does apply keep in mind that a 200% bonus is 3x multiplier; that's further than a carrier can target.

True but I'm more concerned with the scenario of if the enemy warps off Andy he fighters chase after.

The fighters will pursue relentlessly anywhere in the system once on the attack. They will not follow through acceleration gates though.

Fighters and force field interaction was buggy last time (years) I tried that, but the target was always safe (as expected). What happened to your fighters was somewhat random though. Perhaps that has been fixed(?)
