Does CCP realize that they're destroying whole industries with this crap they're giving away? Does the thought even manage to pass through their head?

Thanks, CCP, for screwing over your industrial base and the people that invested in blueprints and spent a countless amount of time in producing the stuff that you decided to give away, staring drunk at your computer screens.

The nice things about previous giveaway events is that you gave away stuff that couldn't necessarily be produced. Snowballs that melt, launchers that are only given away once and can not be produced, Genolution implants, stuff like that. But this year you thought it would be a fun idea to flood the market with random stuff and screw over people who actually spent their time producing it.

What happened to the player-made EVE we knew so well?

EDIT: In other words...

I have no problem with unique gifts. Funny things, that CCP has thought out, either something neat or to give us a laugh, or to laugh at themselves (boots.ini, A Tank Of Honor) - it would be so interesting and fun to see CCP give these sort of things out! It would remind us that, hey, we're a member of this community, and these things would mark that we played EVE during this time. These things are fun!

But I don't think you realize the problem here. You're dismissing the importance of "Expanded Cargohold IIs and Prototype Cloaks". Someone - perhaps many people - spent hours of time investing in those. Mining, building, producing, selling. This is what makes EVE so interesting. Everything of significance is player made. But when CCP floods the market like this - they completely destroy everything those people have worked for if they produced these items. These people, who originally contributed to the market and availability of these items, have now lost a tremendous amount of time and ISK. In essence, what they have worked for has now become absolutely worthless (basic economics). This is what I mean when I say CCP has screwed over the industrial base that produced these items. I don't think I would be wrong at all in saying this.

Legitimacy of a market economy is absolutely essential to maintain proper function of that market economy.

CCP, these gifts don't contribute much to the game. Why not give us something meaningful? Something unique - that would make us remember the eventful things in EVE over the past year? Something that reminds us that we are part of a massive community, a unique community, something that reflects over the year?

I have no idea. Something also tells me that people would appreciate unique (if useless) gifts more.
But I guess the supply of ideas for tanks of honor and boots.ini has run out.

OP, you really need to chill out.

Not to seem ungrateful towards CCP, but the gifts are not very substantial. I got a shuttle one day, 200 arkonor another day, a few T1 drones the next. Not stuff I want or need. I think a couple of the more valuable gifts were worth a million isk or so. I'll probably melt down the rest and maybe get 500k for those minerals. Not worth getting worked up over methinks.

And CCP completely destroyed every industry based off of those items, is what I'm saying. If the gifts are not substantial, why give them away in the first place? Is it that hard to think of a meaningful gift?

Exactly, with the exception of my dear fedo Boris, I've been either reprocessing the gifts or passing them on in local.

I'm not seeing the doom scenarios people mention in this thread.

I have 10x Expanded Cargohold II bpo and I don't really see what the fuss is all about. The market looks normal to me.
So does the prototype cloak market (in fact the price of those went up over the past few days).

So yeah. uh.. whatever?

I do agree with the sentiment that CCP could have given more meaningful gifts. A Miner II doesn't particularly excite me.
The only cool gift so far is the Fedo.

Please stop trolling by trying to say the market is going to collapse over a small influx of general items, tech 1 or 2. Everything balances out in time. No one is getting the yule gifts every day year round or at production speeds. If anything mineral prices will effect the miners more than people in industry. They are happy for all the free scrap.

You can't have both. "Destroying whole industries" is certainly contributing something to the game.

And really, it's not going to have that much of an effect to have a bunch of random junk spewed around the universe. I'm probably going to reprocess most of mine because I can't be bothered to ship it or sell it. If it does have a huge effect and your margins are affected, then you picked a bad item to produce since that means a small volume of items was able to shift the entire economic state of that item.

Yule gifts are a tad 'meh' tbh, only way to rescue this 'promotion' would be if the Christmas Eve gift is a Titan....

Anyways the OP's ovaries need to calm down.....€€P have not broken EVE, they are not scheduled to destroy EVE this year, that's for 2014.

Gee... I hope I can make people think that Expanded Cargo II are saturated and selling at ridiculously low price right now so that they buy tons of them in misguided speculation.

Good job I put a million of them up in Jita...

I can't help but think this is more about your profits being impacted than anything else.

If your living depends solely on anything that was given out by the Yule Lads you are doing it wrong.

This thread has to be a joke.

If it isn't, hooray, we've just found everything that's wrong with Eve in one neat tidy place. Onwards, upwards.
