What is it with this extra cost*???
i have been offline for 6 months
I was going to build a few battleships and I noticed that there's now a extra cost that I don't see the reason for and I do not quite understand why it is...

The ship rebalance that's been going on is not just for ship stats, but for material cost.

To prevent speculation, and flooding the market with reprocessed minerals from nowhere after the patch, the new material costs were done via 'Extra Materials', which are not affected by ME research, and do not return via reprocessing.

Hopefully they'll remove it eventually, as it doesn't really serve a purpose anymore, and is just annoying that you can't bring the ME down.

You mean apart from the thousands of battleships out there, manufactured at the lower cost? Sure, Dominix have reached their build cost. Many of the other ex-tier 1 battleships haven't.

Woo! CSM XI!

Are you kidding? The market still has not recovered from that stupidity. I understand WHY they did it, but we still have clueless people selling ships well below ACTUAL build price and alot of ships still out there built before the changes.

They will NEVER remove it because if they did.. we would have the exact same issue we have now but in reverse. And it would take another year or more for the market to balance back out again.

No.. they can't remove it now... That would cause unholy chaos on the markets for a while. Now that I think about it.. that's just the kind of brainless thing they might actually do. =/ *sigh*

if dominixes are selling at or slightly above build cost, then there wouldn't be a downside to removing the extra materials (moving them into the regular build cost adjusting so a well researched BPO sees no change), because you wouldn't see any particular profit in reprocessing them.
