Just wondering when the "safe haven" for new players that was hinted at might materialize?

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

That's an urban legend, such a thing can never exist without destroying eve.

Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction...

Where was this hinting done? I haven't been made aware of any such thing.

I can't remember the link, but it was in the same article where they discussed moving to a quarterly update schedule for releases.

Who's the genius who came up with that?

Next we'll have pvp flags in null sec.

Are ccp that desperate to retain noobs.

When you stop and consider that most of us veterans are incorrigible arseholes, either to CCP or to each other (or both), it's kind of sensible that CCP would want to attract and retain fresh customers.

I believe it was credited to Rixx Javix. From what I recall, it was an update from the new CEO? (again, sorry I don't have the link)

Agreed on all points but I still can't see how this is going to be good for the game or the community, lessening the danger of eve will make eve less attractive to many it may cost more subs than it saves. Plus it will leave ccp open to more claims of dumbing down and accusations of employing former EA types at too high a level.

I believe the idea was that this was only going to be available for a limited time to new members, ie: you couldn't stay in there indefinitely.

It already exists, you aren't allowed to gank, scam, bait or trick into PvP etc newbies in the newbie systems (Locatable via the Tutorial agents or Aura being there) or in Arnon.

I never said it would be good.

That's down to enforcement of the zone. I know people do get spoken to as I've reported a few from new alts I've had come through. And I'm sure others do also.
As for the mining, as said in the 'Ban strip miners' thread, that's a problem with the whole belt respawning at down time system, and is best solved in other ways.

Not sure if I'm talking about the same thing. But some of my corpies were talking about this type of idea. Best I can remember the idea was that toons over 3 weeks or so would be locked out of starting systems. If that is the case then CCP would need to implement new 'school' stations where I can pick up skill books. I'm lazy and don't want to travel to Itamo every time I need a new Skill.

This. Add crimewatch that is set to "green" by default to protect from mistakes. They already have too much safety.

I have seen this kind of thing before in other MMOs, it was handled fairly well.
The starter system was isolated from every thing else, it was impossible to make any reasonable amount of money.
All starter missions were completable within the starter areas.

This could be accomplished with in eve by placing a few restrictions.
There would be 3 starter systems, 1 high, 1 low and 1 null.
Only content available on trial accounts would be included in these systems.
Once you completed the high sec missions the gate to low would unlock and you would go into low sec.
Here is where eve would kick in. The low sec missions would include PvP oriented.
The null sec would require a few pod kills before it would let you jump into new Eden.

Market would be mostly civilian modules, and mission rewards would be placed in a new Eden system.
Biggest thing would be once you complete and have an active account you would jump through the last gate in the null sec system and be placed into new Eden.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

There are plenty of schools already. Look for skillbook you need on the market - any order with about a year time left is an NPC order. Pick closest to you.

Are you suggesting I would be required to spend hours doing missions for the tutorial, then learning to pirate in LS, then learning to gank and podkill in NS, before my new trading alt would be allowed to fly over to Jita and accomplish his bloody job?!

Fair point. There needs to be some way to skip the tutorial.

Maybe the only way out of the tutorial is to set your clone to a station outside the tutorial systems, then to get podded. That means players who know what they are doing have a quick way out, but new players are unlikely to stumble upon it until the tutorial tells them.
