Ratting Proteus, bad idea?

Hey there,
I'm currently training for Proteus, mostly for spinning it in hangar and occasional PvP.
My primary income is running anoms in my domi in null but my drone skills are... meh.
So I though, maybe i could run anoms in a proteus since it looks better on the paper anyway?

If that's a bad idea, please let me know why.
If not, I would appreciate some fits.

Cheers,
crono.

If you're not in risk of losing your Domi and travel time is not a concern, then the Domi will perform better for ratting, one extra drone, better range, more dps etc. However it depends how bad your drone skills are, if you don't even have T2 sentries but you're well skilled on the Proteus then the Proteus might be better, it's also less bulky and can more easily escape if needed. I don't have fits handy but I'm guessing rails + AB + active armor tank.

Thanks for response.
I rat in the same system i live, so there's no travel time.
I use faction sentries, not skilled for t2.
I was planning to use blasters (don't need too much range for those anoms) + ab + active tank on a proteus and according to PyFa, it vastly outperforms Domi on DPS and tank (with my drone skills).

I guess i'll just have to try it out, once i get it.

Rail and Blaster Prot are underrated to PvE. Although use a MWD if you are using blasters as the prot has an amazing cap use sub so you might as well make use of it. And it will help your completion time.

Thanks.
MWD does sound better.
Time to play with pyfa...

Dominix deals 800 thermal dps at 100+10km range on a t2 fit, and the damage stream is continuous with 2 second lock on all rats lowering it a bit. All of that is applied because at the range the rats beeline for you.
For this you need BS V, sentry V, drone interfacing V.

The Proteus has to consider rat ewar, being at optimal range and tracking. The proteus gains a 2 second lead on every target switch due to no sentry lock delay.

Navy Dominix deals a steady stream of 1200dps+ to 50km with half being drones, half turrets, but is subject to ewar, tracking and requires some tank.

That all sounds nice but the main issue is that training all needed skills will take me a long time. And right now my domi deals about half of that DPS...
Proteus on the other hand is what i'm focusing my training on anyways.
Rats that i deal with don't use ewar a lot, only some frigs have points, so that's fine.

you cold use a blast proteus loaded with long range ammo wich could save some burn time since you can start shooting rats sooner Smile

Also astarte can be fun ship to fly too and its decently tanky but prot might be tankier.

it will be slow. The only reason to do it is because it can tank the harder anoms easier than some other ships. IMO the only reason to rat in a proteus is if you're ninja-belt ratting in someone else's space.
