I am looking to jump in and bumble around (and probably die).

The only experience i have is when i scanned one down before when i first started Eve, went through and got shot at by a Raven on the other side! Needless to say I ran away.

I have watched a load of guides which tell me I'm going to die, with that in mind what would be a good starter ship? Am I right in thinking the Drake? And any tips from your experience would be great.

Thanks

Okay I'm gonna be that arse...

"Welcome to Wormholes... now die!" - This is what you have to keep in mind, if it's blue, grey or reddish it will properbly shoot at you that being said, thanks to Rabblecon, we have some features that support a new way of life mostly known as "highsec diving"

What is HighSec diving?
Def: Scanning Highsec systems for Incoming ... or outgoing wormholes into the different regions of Wormholes, most of the time you will find K162 leading to Highsec and coming from C1 - C3 Space but sometimes you also find Wormholes (M555 for example) that lead to HighClass Wormholes, best advice I can give you is to stay the fudge away from them, because the people behing those Wormholes are badass Mothertruckers that will definitly want to kill you.

Since you don't have the Randomarse signature Clutterfest scanning Highsecs is very simple. The next question would be what do you expect from going into Wormholes?
- Since you said you want to bring a Drake .. i assume you just want to Farm our valueable Nanos and brother the best way to do that is going into C2 Space (to get a little orientation) and later on C3 Space although 1 Drake in C3 is rather time consuming. It does the trick but eventually you get really frustrated and payout is better with an upgraded ship.

Okay we covered the WHY!!!! now lets do the HOW?
Since Rabblecon has been released you have alot more options at your disposal as pre-rabblecon ... for example the mobile depot... it was common to always "waste" a highslot for a probe launcher in case people might get stuck, but thanks to the mobile depot you are free of re-fitting restrictions and can just refit in times of need, which is very handy. I wouldnt recommand parking the depot at a safe though because that just attracts predators, so always keep it close to you.

Beyond that, always scan a system completly to make sure you are alone (check the adjacent systems too) most wormhole people have extensive maps and their reach covers at least 15 Holes on a good day ... soo keep in mind wormhole space is bigger than you think and you have people out here that know what they welp....

Coming to the conclusion, if you cannot loose a ship you should just skip ... Level 4 missions done correctly have a similiar payout then Class 2 Wormholes, although you can do some nice cherry picking thanks to Highsec Diving.

For example most people can be tracked down because they do "combat anoms" these dont require probes to be found a normal pilot can check via dscan in which combat anom. your butt is hiding, so always go for Relic or Data Sites so you force the hunters to actually use probs which shows up on dscan and is a good warning for you to GTFO.

so thanks for the fish and... lets hope i find you before someone else does :)
Best of Luck
Bert

I am currently running lvl4 missions and doing ok out of it so its mainly for the experience initially with a view to make some money once I have a better undertanding of general survival against players and rats first hand

The tip on data sites and the mobile depot are great! I bet im dead within the week!

Solo exploration in a wh can be fun, exciting and nerve racking! I've actually watched a n00b wh explorer go here, go there, scan, cloak, scan, sit... it was fun, watching him explode was also fun, but what came afterwards was more than fun, it was rewarding. I actually opened up a convo with him, explained to him what he had done to get himself killed, explained why I didn't pod him and helped to escort him back into HS....

I think this person learned more in that hour about WH's then you can learn by reading. Living the "life" is always better then reading.

I recommend that if you're truly interested in wh life, come join our public channel (in my sig below) and talk to a few of us. Tell 'em Xar sent you from the forums and they'll treat you right.

I can honestly say that Suicide is one of the better corps I've been in, and I absolutely trust the guys I fly with (get drunk with, drink k-space tears with, bring the gudfight with, etc...). Although I respond to your post in the hopes that you may want to come join in with our ceremoniously curious relationship with bob, if we can help kspace folks feel more comfortable bringing a fight into the wh (and no, we don't BLOB like other corps, and we'll even fight when the numbers are against us), PvP in wh space will be more exciting for all.

Hit me up in game if you want to discuss more.

So I found a C1 high sec static (I think). Am I right i thinking i will always have a high sec exit each time the hole dies? The hole had the numbers N110 (on exit) and K162 (Entry)

There is Russians...

Use the wormhol.es website in-game (be sure to trust it). It will give you all the info you need. Though sometimes the current residence info is wrong.

N110 is the hs static from the c1 you were in.

You're right in thinking that the Drake is a good ship to use - when properly fitted, it can handle up to C3 sleeper combat sites, although you'll die of old age before actually completing more than a couple C3s by yourself.

Daytripping from k-space is fun, but once you move into a wormhole and start farming your static, the ISK flows like water. On a good day, you'll gain a little bit more than you'll lose to PVP, which is always exciting!

If you can't afford a POS, having trouble finding an empty hole, or just don't trust yourself to set everything up correctly, I highly recommend joining a corporation in a C2 or C3. My corp, Will It Fit, has that option, but there are plenty of other corporations out there that offer similar opportunities!

Good luck!
