CCP layoffs

I just hope someone makes a new Vampire the Masquerade game eventually. I'm not really surprised about CCP canning WoD. In what 5 or 6 years they couldn't even produce a single screenshot. I wish CCP would abandon everything besides EVE and just focus on the core gameplay of that. Seriously, it's the only thing they're awesome at. CCP should also apologize for Dust. They need to come together and address their entire EVE playerbase and admit they were stupid for even thinking of Dust and the way it was implemented.

To their credit, at least they tried to do something different. Problem being they'd had very little experience with making FPSes and it shows. Heck, Eve itself goes to show that CCP aren't known for making polished, user friendly games, and they normally take time to mature. The real issue comes with their choice of format - putting it on a console that's coming to the end of it's shelf life is just a bad, bad idea. Sure the user base is going to be large, but that user is base is known for moving onto the next shiny thing that comes their way. If they'd produced it on the Pc then it would have been likely to last as long as Eve itself lasted, and none of the trouble of getting two different programming languages to communicate.

**** happens guys, it's business. They are in the line of work where they will not struggle for long before finding new employment.

Those people suggesting "plex for ccp" can truly suck a nut

sad but probably necessary. In a perfect world, bringing the CCP's particular brand of grimdark sandbox gameplay to a vampire MMO would be pretty cool. But, I think most of us who remember the purchase of White Wolf also remember our collective incredulity as well. Between Eve, Valkyrie, Eve in other media such as Chronicles and True Stories, and Dust, CCP has enough on their plate. And I'm not among the "kill Dust" crowd either.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

My question is....

If the rumor that CCP is/was producing WoD as part of their contractual obligations as part of the WW purchase is true.... does failure to deliver mean that WW reverts to the original shareholders?

If so that could be very expensive.

Whatever the business decision behind it, is a horrible thing to happen to anybody especially at Christmas. Here is hoping those affected by the lay off have a good package and good luck in finding work elsewhere.

Start wide, expand further, and never look back

Considering WOD was featured prominently as part of the CCP line up (EVE, DUST, VALKYRIE, WOD) in their latest video I kinda seriously doubt they suddenly decided to stop development.

They did base the development out of the Atlanta office. Would not be the first time they did a 180 with marketing.

Anything is possible of course, but the only reason WOD would be dropped is if they ran into a technical limitation that was insurmountable... which is highly unlikely.

You mean like their complete inability to come up with any fix for lag, other than lag for everyone?

Since most lag is client side anyway would be hard for CCP to "fix" it to start with Roll

What does Christmas have to do with anything? If these people had no savings and could only afford presents if their check clears in time then they couldn't afford presents at all. Whether they were laid off now or in June their income is gone just the same. If they live paycheck to paycheck then that is their choice and should not be a consideration of CCP or any other company when these kinds of decisions must be made.

Wow, you are seriously some kind of humanitarian.

I bet you think that sending all those clothing mfg jobs to Bangladesh is a sign of great largesse by big business, not some money grab on the backs of the most desperate. Do you also believe that by eliminating unemployment payouts you are helping those people by "encouraging" them to find work as soon as possible?

I agree. They apologized for WiS and stopped wasting time on it and they should do the same with Dust.

EVE is a game about spaceships and there's an enormous amount of work to do on the in-space gameplay before players (or developers) are ready to sacrifice it for a totally new type of gameplay - CCP Rise

I just want to comment on the TIMING of the layoffs.

I work for a global electronics company based in Amsterdam (google it, there is only one) and EVERY year there are layoffs at the end of December. It has nothing to do with the Sky Fairy's birthday and everything to do with End of Quarter and End of Year financials.

I believe this year the noticies will go out on the evening of the 20th this year, last year it was the 22nd. So pretty much the weekend before a major holiday. It is nothing personal, just business.

They have these reports that investors and other businesses look at to determine the health of a company. It also affects stock price and credit worthiness. These are important things to keep a company running.

And if you are in a position that could be considered "not profitable", you had better have a good resume and have already started networking well before the official notification.

Just thought I would add my 2 cents.

Congratulations and Merry Christmas... Good luck in the next company you do a crap job in. PS, please apply to Nokia, Microsoft, Google, Facebook or something like that, we could do with a shake up in the market.

It seems that CCP will do anything but invest in eve.

Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction...

Are you shitting me?...

This is like the 4th or 5th successful expansion, that has added content to the game IN A ROW... you are either too new, or a complete troll.

EVE is now the SECOND MMO IN THE WORLD to offer a full DirectX 11 engine upgrade, the first was World of Warcraft.

EVE and WoW, the only MMOs worth a damn, coincidence that they are the ones being maintained?

Thank You Obama!

White Wolf LARP (Vampire and Werewolf) locally is a strange and somewhat sad phenomena. Here it is played by incompetent gamers who cannot act running around attacking each other with plastic swords and reciting monologues. Everyone in the group seems at some stage to have dated everyone else (of either gender in some cases) and they all take it far to seriously with some of the local players even taking court orders out against each other claiming they are being intimidated.

Odd stuff ... presumable on a global basis it is not quite so dysfunctional .. but meh ...

STO, maybe you're just too new to remember this but the last 4-5 expansions have been a pale shadow of what came before.

Further:

Crucible: T2 rigs, New BCs

Inferno: Nada. Was almost entirely about reblancing and alterations.

Retribution: Four new Dessies and a frig

Odyssey: New Exploration sites, Navy BCs.

Rubicon: three new deployables, a rare new type of scan site, and two ships. Maybe 3 if they ever figure out the SoE BB.

Compared to such older expansions as...

RMR: 23 new ships

Exodus: POS, Deadspace, Alliances, and quite a few ships IIRC.

Trinity: graphics engine update, 20 new ships,
