I only own diesel engines, though. European gas burners are like a sewing machine with a turbo on them.

Our diesel Clio has 170k km on it and the engine's just getting broken in. I've got an old Ford Mondeo station wagon for work and my band and stuff which has 220k km on it. I've tried killing that engine and it just won't die. It's like a monster. I honestly think that I'm going to get rid of it simply because I'm tired of looking at its ugliness rather than it actually having something wrong with it.

as long as it isn't the 1.5 dCI, then yeah.

that mass-produced engine might be economic and have power across a wide band, but from what I've seen, every single one of those engines is pretty much programmed to self destruct once you hit the 120.000km barrier, unless you do extensive maintenance on it (from timing belts to oil changes and turbocharger maintenance).

electronics wise, they are less iffy than italian, that's for sure, but for french cars PGA is still better, reliability wise.

In my experience, Peugeot are quite the sturdy cars... just each now and then one of them turns wrong and pays for every sin of its siblings. i knew a guy whose 405 Diesel never did more than 10,000 km without having to go to the shop for some major repair, until the engine self-destructed around the 120,000 km mark as some part of it litherally blew off and the engine catched fire.

yeah that's the issue about PGA. Addmitedly they do have very sturdy engines and cars (Peugeout 205 XAD for example. those things simply won't die... as long as you keep an eye on the engine temp P), but sometimes every now and then one of those engines simply won't work at all.

I am impressed by the engineering in that little hatch.

However. Anyone can make you hold your breath at 160mph. I like to make you hold your breath at 5 mph. I'll stick to my Jeeps.
