If I remember correctly, NEO had 8 pilots format, so it would be 8 pilots + 4 replacements for each match.

This is correct.

There still is s bit of an issue with such low numbers. As mentioned above I believe that 16 or so would be a better number.

I missed the NEO last year, could not do the Alliance tourney this year do to the "in the alliance" change of rules and with only 4 replacements I really don't think I can participate this year since I know with absolute certainty I will not be able to be there for Valentine's weekend. (I am a gondolier, busiest day of the year for me.)

I know that CAStabouts had issues with the last tourney making sure they had sufficient players at match times do to low participant numbers for the Alliance tournament. Then again that was because about a quarter of the team was hit with the "Alliance" rule change.

Another issue is that a 12 pilot team makes fielding a team of newer players (lower SP) much more difficult. Having such a low pilot count would mean Ashina here with 100m SP would have much greater flexibility then another pilot with role a focused 25 million SP.

In addition to all of the above there is another problem, a greater one in my view. Your setting up the meta before the tourney starts and leaving teams with less flexibility to adapt. Once again I can look to the "in alliance rule change" from the last Alliance tourney and how it effected CAStabouts. The group did not have any Sentry pilots on the team since all of those pilots were barred with the rules change. End result was the inability to adapt to the meta.

Unfortunately this post is coming across as a "woe is me" whine. This is not the point. I do believe that having a few more pilots on the roster would be beneficial to the NEO. Even one more pilot would help. As I stated above it is likely that I will not be participating in any case since the Tourney runs right though one of the busiest times of work for me.

Edit: There is another complication. Such a small size team means that the pilots will be chosen to follow the meta the team wishes to use. Without the rules (as if yet) the theory crafters can't build set ups so they would not know which pilots they would want on the team.

What thought has been put into leveling the playing field as an e-sports event?

For tourney's taking place and having prizes in the Eve Universe such as the Alliance Tournament it makes sense to me to have have differences with skill points, resources and such.

However for a Tournament with real cash or if trying to build a recurrent E-sport around Eve Online game play I think it would make more sense to reduce the variables and really only have player skill and strategy affect the outcome.

As such is there any thought to having or creating a dedicated Tournament server with all max SP characters with equal access to ships and modules that are allowed by the tournament's rule set?

Or maybe make EVE Esport about frigate hulls only. It is very low entry barrier and would rise the competitiveness of the sport.

BALEX, bringing piracy on a whole new level.

So by silent auction does it mean only the richest players can enter and the rest of eve can ignore it completely?

I would like to confirm that Ashine Hitama's team will be part of this year's NEO.

If the Signups are between 12 - 20 December we will need to provide the team compositions to when we signup?
Or we can provide the team composition later since we don't know the rules and the teams are limited we need to carefully select the chars/players for the team and the rules could play an important role doing so?

Also would like an answer to this question. Not knowing the rules before signups open makes it very difficult to know who you want on a team.

+1 to prior suggestions of larger than 12 people per team. 24 really is too much, but 12 is too few, especially if a team is lucky enough to make it to the finals where turnaround times are exhausting, to say the least.

Also I would like to comment on team size.

As a winners of first NEO, there is some experience I would like to share about team size. 24 is really too much, for the team, but 12 is very tight. Im not saying it cannot be done, im just saying it can be limiting factor for many teams.

I would suggest CCP to change that to 14. A lot of fights and team need atleast 6 extra pilots to be ready to step in in case someone get tired or has something in RL.

Hi all - for those who didn't participate last year and only watched, and can't really remember everything (like me) - could we get something added to the devblog that lists the procedures a little more clearly and not just the changes since last year? What's the process I'd have to go through to sign up a team? I see there are signup dates and a date for a silent auction, etc - care to explain exactly what we're supposed to do with that information?

Yes, I could search through old devblogs and make assumptions but I'd rather have the information available right here.

Also - am I posting in the wrong thread? I expected 30 or so pages of comments and questions by now, but unless I'm experiencing a big bug, I'm on page 2.
