Fixing sec status

So I've taken a couple years off from the game and decided to see what was new going on. Happy to see some new ships and mods and effects etc. My main is -9.something and I was wondering if the mechanics to regain positive sec was still the same. From what I've read, you can buy these tags now and turn them in for raising sec status. Buying my way back to into empire is probably really expensive no? Anyone got an estimate from my current sec status? In any case if its gonna cost more than a billion is the the ratting system still the same? IE: kill highest bounty rat in system, jump to next system kill highest bounty there. etc etc.. updates on sec status every 15min or has that changed too?

Belt chaining is supposedly slower now because you get the sec status bonus from the highest bounty rat killed within x minutes, instead of per session change as it used to be.

Just buy tags. I priced it out for myself to go from -6.9 to 0.0 and it was 500ish mil, as the lowest sec status tags are the cheapest you won't have to pay much more than that.

That has changed, now you get sec status based on the highest bounty rat you have killed in the last 15min, jumping systems does not help.

They have also added what is essentially an isk for sec status option, where you can by tags from lowsec ratters, and turn them in at a lowsec concord station to recover your sec status. The Tags are tiered, cheapest to go from -10 to -7.5, get more expensive every 2.5 sec status as you go towards 0.0.

The ratting process is about the same. I'm not sure on the specifics as I quite like being flashy red and haven't kept up on the changes. You could do a combination of ratting and buying tags. If you are in FW, make a pass through the belts between each plex. Pirate

Tags for sec status cost (based on Jita prices for tags)

Ratting has been changed slightly, now only the biggest rat you kill in the last 5 (not 15) minutes counts, regardless of systems.

Here's a dev blog detailing both changes.

The strangest thing just happened, I don't know how it affects my sec status, I woke up today and I noticed something missing. I asked a corpmate, snips, and he had no idea what had happened. Maybe I cut my MWD too soon. I tried to delete my cache to see if that helped, but nothing. It's just gone. Just thought I would share the experience to see if anyone has had the same problem.

Another thing you could do for your sec status is run incursions in null or low-sec. It might be hard to find people to do it with.
