Complex? CCP knows quite well that there's no such thing as bad PR. They probably have CCP Soundware somewhere deep cover on his next assignment to **** off the bittervets.

This feature would be great... so long as, right under your current name, we see your past names in the character history.

Name:
Hula Bob

Known aliases:
ImInUrPOS OffliningUrShields
Yodelheim Semolina
Awoxer SaysWhut
Skill Training Online

But in purple, I'm stunning!

Big smile I too considered naming my character Yodelheim Semolina but it didn't seem to fit.

Not really on the consequences bit, forcing people to check your bio to find out who you really are would still be a very useful trick.

As for mind-blowing... not realising your character's name has a typo until you have invested significant skill points? That is mind-blowing.

Consequence for the sake of consequence is pointless.
Having a public name change history is enough of a consequence.
There's really no reason to oppose this except for people's stubbornness.

A Character in your.....position, I'd say Milktanks would be a better fit...

Majority of players simply dont give a damn about other players past. Were you a miner? Awoxer? Scammer? I don't care and I will forget you in no time.
Those who care about other players past (recruit officers and other creepy stalkers) WILL check name log by their own choice.

Well... I get the consequences and reputation thingy I really do. Wouldn't really change my characters name however I got this alt... which has a really dumb one (I was young, stupid and needed the money)...

Not saying it has to be implemented but having say a once in a life time name change and the character sheet showing to your previous name somewhere would be a nice addition.

Well, I'm not that opposed to name changes really, it's just if someone comes along and says "my past self was unable to spell correctly / had **** taste in names" my natural reaction is "lol" not "let's call the CSM hotline and get name changes pushed through".

The only real objection I'd have is that it would cheapen the characters somewhat, in that they might lose a sense of identity and become little more than floating pots of SP with labels. Name changes seem 'gamey'. But, not everyone is going to care about that sort of thing.

Moreover even now, when we have "names with consequences" well-known corp thieves still successfully operate, people still use Mittani 3rd party supercap trading service (most trusted service in New Eden), awoxers with names like "Awox McBlueKiller" still.. awox. Bear Character name change wont remove trustful dummies from the game.

Already implemented by CCP for operator in China so don't be so sure.

I wonder if CCP still have that Monoclegeddon complex? Why else we still dont have those services on TQ? Ugh

alot fo things are different in the chinese server, if i recall the galente federation doesnt even exist in lore there.

just because something is acceptable in one culture does not mean it is accepted in all cultures, chinese/korean MMOs have a long history of MT for the stupidest of little things, and people pay shittons for it, over there its become not common but EXPECTED business practice.

now you have the "western" EVE playerbase (sorry russians and japanese, possibly australians), who have for 10 eyars been absolutely apppaled at the idea of MT in EVE, and how MT-based games rarely do well voer long periods of time in western markets.

its just how it is, cultural differences lead to differences in business, thank god CCP is a western company.

except when everyone has 80 billion names over the years of their career, also, what happens when oen personw ants a anme someone else USED to have?

we either have single chaarcters taking up large amounts fo anmes, or we allow those names back into circulation adn we get presented with the issue of "okay, when did this event, perpetrated by character X, happen? because depending on that, it could have possibly been player W, Y, or Z."

so character identification would start to resemble old world lineage "I am X, previously Y, also known as Z, who was occasionally known as W, but only after playing as V"

so yes, there is a LOGICAL reason to NEVER allow name changes.

Or you could just limit the amount of name changes to something reasonable. One per year, maybe.

I wouldn't mind if CCP delete names from old unused accounts.
