Ship test fitting

Something that I am surprised that still doesn't seem to be implemented.

Why can't we drag-drop modules from the market to the ships fitting screen to test-fit a setup in-game and then use a "buy now" order to instantly buy the entire setup. This would be incredibly useful, would take away the need of 3rd party software and would always give a 100% accurate display of what the layout will be like when you buy it.

Considering that EVE already has the entire fitting implemented all you would have to do is make it possible to drag/drop non-owned modules, fit them as "ghost" modules and let the existing calculations do their job.

Either there is something I am missing here, but I really don't see why this feature has not yet been implemented.

EFT, Pyfa and EVEHQ already do this. There's no need for CCP to re-invent the wheel and probably do a worse job of it. Case in point, there are times when EFT's capacitor simulation is more accurate than the one in the fitting window.

^ This.

EFT (can't speak for the others, but probably) also does a much better job than the fitting window in many other ways, such as accounting for skills, implants, fleet bonuses, online/offline modules, resist and damage profiles, providing DPS graphs against specific targets, etc. etc. etc.

Reimplementing such a complex engine within EVE would probably take a major expansion feature, and would be completely pointless, as it already exists.

(On another note, the ability to buy all the modules in a selected fitting in a single click is an often requested feature that would be very beneficial.)

if you have a spesific fit saved you should beable to highlight the fit in saved fits and "buy now" and you can select "station" "system" or 1+ jumps away.. like how we can set up our buy/sell orders.
Doing this may liven up pvp for low sec more ships get popped, more isk circulating.. every one is happy.

You can drag favorite saved fits in quick buy tab of market to quickly purchase needed modules.

Opinions are like assholes. Everybody got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks.

and it still takes forever and it is a tedious and horrible task.
select item to the left -> right click on item on the right side -> buy this -> crappy buy window -> checking amounts, because your super quick buy is just a "fav item tab" really, not a "buy fit" tab. so you need to check amounts of said item -> finish buy box....
that... for every item.

A one click would be nice, player sets the limit / filters of range from where to buy, and then you get a tabular list of the items, price and totals. you can uncheck those lines you deem unreasonable.

but it won't happen.
+1 still

Basically, the reason 3rd party tools like EvEHQ, Pyfa and EFT is the same reason DOTLAN exists, because the game fails to provide the information and tools we want. Honestly, it (like a fair amount of the UI) needs an overhaul. Now, how many tools the UI should provide, I can't say. Should it let you change your skills to see stats? Run damage application or capacitor use graphs? Probably not, to either of those. Those are the kinds of things I would expect to see in 3rd party applications. But it should provide some basic functionality in terms creating fits in game and saving them without actually having to buy the ship/equipment. 3rd party programs shouldn't go away (I love EvEHQ, personally) but CCP does need to look into making a better experience for these rather crucial elements of EvE at some point. From what I understand CCP does have some concept art for a revamped UI done, and I think they mentioned that it's in the pipe for some time down the road.

As it stands though, I would rather see CCP work on more pressing issues, finish the ship rebalance and dig into some of the more ugly mechanics of the game that need to be reworked (read:sov, pos code, ect.) before spending time on this.

Someday though, someday.

Basically, a lot of important functionality is "delegated" to 3rd party programs because right now CCP can either do something only they can do with EVE or improve tools already available through aforementioned programs.

We already have some great tools for the job, EFT for example, but it'd be really handy to have it all contained within client through a virtual fitting window. I can even deal with some of the drawbacks the existing fitting system has. Simply due to the laziness of having to open up an entirely separate program, it'd be way more convenient to be able to work on this within the client itself.

I disagree. Opening EVE which uses 1 GB of RAM compared to EFT's 10 MB of RAM. Why should ccp spend resources to develop something that's already available for free? EFT/Pyfa are so good that even CCP Fozzie/Rise use them instead of their internal fitting tools

Aww I'm so sorry you feel that you have so much stuff to do but before you leave, can I have your stuff and contents of your wallet?

I'm always poor and will put your donation to good use and even give you a spot in my upcoming video.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!
