are drones good for killing mwd'ing frigates?
good damage application?

been playing around with different fits in EFT(and the dps graph), and it seems to have perfect damage application as long as the drone has enough speed, is this correct?

Yes, MWD targets have a huge signature, making it faster to lock them, and easier to hit them.

Typically Warrior II are used for PvP because of them being the fastest, but they can be outrun by insanely fast ships. The drones end up chasing the target, and won't be in usual optimal range.

I'm fairly certain EFT does not model drone speed and orbit distance vs target sig in its calculations. It just throws the paper DPS onto there. In practice, drones have to turn on/off their MWDs which may cause them to trail behind the target, or overshoot the target, or go so fast that they miss a couple volleys, etc...

In general, light drones are good tools against frigates, and warriors are the best light drone for hitting stuff that is moving very fast.

Drones have two speed modes, Max velocity and Orbit Velocity.

For the Warrior 1 this is 4,200 m/s and 750 m/s for the unskilled pilot.

When you launch you drones they will travel to the target at max velocity till they get within range and then they will switch to their orbit velocity, they will then land a few shots but the mwd ship will burn out of range, at which point your drones will revert back to their max velosity mode to get the target back into range.

Drones still have to take into account their own tracking speed and optimal range.

The real trick to applying drone damage, much like blasters, is a web. If you put 2 webs on a very fast frigate a flight of hammerheads will chew it right up. Same goes with light drones. The problem with this is catching it to begin with.

Warrior IIs will hit any ship* save some Interceptors and apply damage well.

* - there might be the odd failfit that isn't an interceptor that can outrun Warrior IIs but for realistic fits that isn't an issue.

Interceptors are a nightmare for many drone ships, but usually if one catches you on a gate or station you can disengage unless they have friends nearby. Away from a gate or a station, you are a sitting duck until their friends arrive.
