Remove Defender missiles

Dear CCP,


with a the new look towards weapons and ammo,

please look at defender missiles to.


So far I haven't seen them used in PvP, and doing so would be generally called silly Bear

Sometimes they do appear in PvE, where npc's use them against missile chuckers

However it is my understanding that a capsuleer in PvE can fight up to 40 (non sleeper AI) npc's

and maybe a dozen sleeper AI npc's (not sansha) without breaking a sweat,

so why bother giving them defender missiles ?



A) they have hardly any change to "defend" against a capsuleer anyways

B) the overall effect of scrapping the defender missile's vs time per mission is most likely neglectable

C) missiles use up way more server cpu then other weapon, and why waste it on something that isn't useful

D) anyone seen defender missiles on any kill mail lately ?


So please get rid of them now,

personally I rather see in another expansion some sort of point defense system that uses turrets

Information is Ammunition,

War does not tolerate Ambiguities.

You make no sense.

You don't know if anybody uses them and killmails don't count as proof.

There's no reason to remove them, because they don't disturb anybody,

As nobody seems to use them, they are not using any CPU anyway,
so there's no need to remove them.

(i know, that sounds a bit flawed, but there surely are plenty of items "nobody" uses)
(and they are here to stay too)

So...

You seem to want to remove something you are not using, something you are not even seeing,
but it still crosses your mind hard enough to make you feel like opening up a thread about it
and "asking" to remove something that does not bother you in any way at all,
except in your imagination.

Wow !

Maybe, just maybe, you have a point you want to communicate,
but fail really bad at that because instead of promoting what you want, (turret based missile defending thingy)
you try to make something look unnecessary ? ^^

make them shoot bombs problem solved

All automated intel should be removed from the game including Instant local/jumps/kills/cynos for all systems/regions.Eve should report nothing like this to the client/3rd party software.Intel should not be force fed to players. Player skill and iniative should be the sources of intel.

Make them auto target enemy missiles, just not necessarily ones targeting you. Problem solved.

Edit: Just occurred to me that a new ship could arise for large fleet pvp, missile defense network ship. Gives bonuses to defender turret rate of fire and defender missile accuracy.

By the way, since we're already talking, do you want to buy a rifter? I've got the cheapest rifters in Metropolis. If you can find a cheaper rifter, buy it!

I think CCP should respond with Defender Missile Batteries for POS's.

Well, not really since my combat pilto is Caldari... but it would be funny.

true. They seem like an good idea, however inherently broken. If you fix them to the point where they be used than new row of complaints come about "nerf defender missiles"

You cant really take people opinions into an count in such thing.

SmartBomb far superior to defenders... that is just fact.

combo defender and FoF in one missile could be actually an good idea... now that i think of it.

Defenders need to be made separate from missile launchers. As long as the compete for space with (far) more useful and applicable things like delivering DPS, they remain pointless and far too situational even if there was some minute point to them.

They need to be turned into modslot modules, which can either be targeted against a particular ship you want to defend against, or made to defend a particular target, and they need to be auto-fire once turned on. Essentially, they should be tracking disruptors for missiles — a module that negates part of the opponent's ability to do damage with the affected weapon system.

This would be cool. Also having them as a mid-slot module, or a high-slot that doesn't steal a missile hard-point would be win. And actually making them useful to destroy incoming missiles of course.

Yep i would rather see FoF and defenders merged into one type... So it either shoot missile or closest ship/structure whatever.

Well, I was thinking about a auto-fire turret, that would fire a small AoE charge at enemy missiles, possibly hurting anything in the immediate blast area.
