Is this needed for frigate size ships anymore since the warp speed changes? Before the server went down i was trying it and it seemed to be just as quick getting into warp without this technique.

the whole point of mwd cloak is so noone can lock you while you are aligning or to get back to a gate without dying. what does warp speed have to do with either one?

The MWD-cloak trick is a mechanism for getting up to warp velocity (aligning) while cloaked. The warp speed change strictly affects your velocity while in warp. They're two completely different stages of the warp process.

I was under the impression that the recent changes also affected how quickly you went into warp, if that's not true then I see that this would still be necessary.

Firstly, I want to make sure we're all aligned regarding what this does and does not cover. For the purpose of this blog, I'm talking about everything that happens in a warp AFTER your ship's velocity has reached the alignment threshold of 75% of its maximum speed, in a direction roughly oriented towards the destination. Before this point, your ship is simply aligning, not warping. Nothing we're changing in Rubicon affects this alignment phase, only what happens after you see the warp kick in.
