Destroyer balancing issue

OK. So I've got a Catalyst as a reward in tutorial missions. Great, it's got 8 turret slots.
Now here's my problem with the balancing issue:

I'd expect the basic setup with all the prerequisites met to easily handle at least one activity, for example firepower. If I'd fit 8 laser turrets to the ship, I'd like to have the capacitor stable when all of them are online, without having to fit the ship with additional modules, maybe I'd be OK with some related skills that need to be trained up, to boost the cap output. This is not the case. I'd be OK with sacrificing the tracking computer, afterburner, and other fitted modules in favor of max firepower, that would be fine in terms of balance, so some overwhelming force would easily blow me to bits if I'd stick to the firepower tactics only, without deactivating some lasers in favor of armor repairers etc. You really need to work on the attribute balancing a bit, this was a serious turndown for me.

If it was easy, it wouldn't be fun.

You reference a Catalyst... then lasers... eh?

Welcome to EVE :)

I cannot resist but point out that you were a bit quick to jump into balancing conclusions.

Have you tried these tools?
EVE Fitting Tool
EVEMON

Fooling around in EFT before you purchase stuff and planning ahead with EVEMON will be very useful.
Also, it's natural in this game that things don't always work quite like expected. Most ships are actually pretty well balanced the way they are, and for example a Catalyst can be a very useful ship when the fitting is right. When you get a bit more familiar with the game you'll have a better picture of what can you expect from which ship. It's a learning curve, and it's fun.

The solution for your particular problem are the skills named capacitor management and capacitor systems operation, as well as controlled bursts. Furhtermore, lasers on aything other than an Amarr ship are a bad idea, they don't have the base capacitor to handle the thirsty turrets. Try hybrid weaponry instead, you'll be amazed.

You fitted the wrong guns to your catalyst. Use blasters or rails, or take a Coercer for lasers.

Just to make sure you don't do it again: CATALYST IS NOT A LASER BOAT THE SHOW INFO OPTION IS THERE FOR A REASON.

Welcome to eve. ;)

There's nothing worse than an EVE player, generally considered to be top of the food chain in the MMO world, that cannot smacktalk with wit and coherency.

You can edit it to say: "Never mind - nothing to see here"

and the same goes for the thread.

You could even rename the thread "mods pls delete" or some such.
