Hi.
If you dont minding answering a couple question I have- and I appreciate that not everyone likes the new mechanics but I just need some positive input and maybe pertinent advice that I haven't thought to ask.

Hi-sec explorer
I was running tandem with a talos and imicus- mostly looking for angel cartel 4/10's. Do they still exist? Have changes been made to them or pretty much the same?
Today I found a couple of ...relic sites...hacking? Someone was already there...but I got to one can and it blew up in my face after failing maybe 3 times? Is that the mechanic? 3 strikes your out?
The second site also had another person in it, I "thought" i had successfully hacked it as I saw a 'poof' after clicking what I thought read as "main node" or something but didnt quite catch what was said...tried opening the can but no option to. No loot showed up on my overview...what did I miss?
What is this loot spew I have been reading about?

I very much enjoyed the radar sites of old and of course the 4/10s as they were very profitable for me- on and off days, of course.

Also, if I jump systems in my imicus with system map open is it guaranteed I am seeing all the signatures without even throwing a probe down?
both my toons have 6m SP, one combat one explore/cov ops.

Thanks for any addition input and advice

I can't speak for 4/10s, I haven't been in highsec for years. (Scary place. Lions and stuff.)

The new and improved profession sites come in two types:

Relic/Data sites: same thing except for the tool used (Analyzer and codebreaker respectively.) Cans only, no NPCs. You get as many attempts as you want. After a successful attempt, the hacked thingy spits out a bunch of containers. Click the containers to receive bacon. However they will despawn in several seconds, so be quick. Solo you can't collect them all - use a cargo scanner and google a guide to find out which are the most valuable ones. (There is a logic to which to pick up, I couldn't tell you, I don't do PvE. Lions and stuff.)

Ghost sites: on a hidden timer. When the timer expires, the site goes BOOM and a bunch of NPCs spawn (assuming you survive the BOOM). There is no loot spew, as soon as you hack the can you get the bacon. The timer is somewhat random, but you'll usually only get time to hack one or two cans. Oh, and if you fail a hack, BOOM. Again, use a cargo scanner to see which cans to go for first.

Profit off either kind in highsec is however going to be minimal at best. Use highsec sites to get your feet wet, learn how the different sites work, but if you want to make money off it, go to nullsec or at least lowsec.

When you enter a new system you'll see all the signatures in the system. Green ones you can warp to immediately, red ones you still have to probe down. But you see everything there is to see.

Beware the lions.

Well thank you!
hmm, so thats the loot spew I've been reading about...seems silly indeed.
I did thoroughly enjoy the rush of cloaked scanning in low traveled, non populated .4 space...having my talos waiting safely on the other side, not near the gate...thing is I have never PVP'd...well, except of course the two times some idiot imicus'(imicai?) popped suspect in my radar/ded site...guess I was the lion that day.

Cans in data and relic sites will go pop (not damaging your ship) after 2 failed attempts at the mini-game.

All DED sites are part of the Exploration mechanic now and need to be probed / scanned down. The only static sites left showing in the Star Map are the Cosmos Complexes and Landmark Beacons.

DED sites 1/10 up to 4/10 can be found in high security as well as the unrated named sites (Hideout, Lookout, Watch and Vigil). Not to mention the various Rogue Drone sites. For more info check the Evelopedia.

Over the past few years CCP has progressively made scanning a lot easier which has created a lot of competition in high security. Basically it's all about speed now. Being able to quickly probe and blitz the sites asap before moving on to the next system. There are some areas of high security without much competition but those areas are off the beaten pathway and are quickly becoming rare.

Anyway, good luck to you and welcome back to Eve.

thanks all- after a couple days n nights running exploration, its not very interesting in hi sec as I havent ran into any 4/10's- it used to take skill to scan down something and I at least could keep up-time wise, with the varying proteus, tengu's who were my main competition. But now, its ridiculous...every site I find either has someone in it or someone bounces in it while Im doing cans. My corp seems abandoned since I got back from a 6 month layoff- glad to see it still up as the tax is only 5%. So looking for a null sec corp to learn pvp and maybe run some sites and explore new options to this game...but in the meantime im running trade routes like I first did when I started.
Cheers!

1. You're no longer competing against t3's, meaning relative to the competition, you're stronger than before.
2. 4/10s are still about as much as they were before, and frankly they've been competitive targets for years.
3. I have never had someone compete with me for a hisec data/relic site. Not saying it doesn't happen, but the only competition worth mentioning is for the 4/10s.

while I may not be competing against t3's, it does seem to me that the pool of competitors has greatly increased in regards to 4/10s.
again, I bring the old way of scanning sigs vs the new way...its just too easy therefore more competition.
