Proper protocol for using another's poco...?

I never dabbled with planetary interaction so if this was answered before, I do apologize.

If I found a set of planets I would not mind harvesting goods from, then is it proper to ask the owners of the floating poco unit before dropping a command center onto the planet?

Cold, harsh, and all that, but I still do have manners.

Thank you.

You are not expected to ask, especially as they can't stop you. You can try asking for standings to get a lower tax rate, but good luck with that. In lowsec, you might ask the owners to not shoot you if they live in the area, but that's it.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

Never forget.

No need to ask. If they have a reasonable tax rate set then they want you to use it. If they don't want people to use it they will set the tax rate to 100%.

So always make sure you check the tax rate before setting up on a planet (need to be in the system and view info on the customs office)

Your are more than welcome to use any RvB POCOs, which have reasonable tax rates* - as long as your standings are neutral or better to us. We have several dozens in the forge.

*5% for neutrals, + the NPC tax which we don't control and is skill dependent

Just a note:

Complaining about POCO tax rates is a wonderful way to get put on a red list, and have your rate set to 100%.

Smile

Or just complaining about the people that run the POCO. Forum posters who, say, go on 'Grr Goons!' rants, may find themselves with punitive tax rates on Goon run worlds. Got to love consequences Big smile

Sorry, but that seems kind of stupid.

Those aren't consequences.

IRL such THINGS as the GOONS (read: actions by such parties would be penalized and irl there are mechanics to punish such behavior) would be broken up as cartels as such they should be.

CCP should start to realize why the game is not growing. It's NOT the US great depression. (or the decline of Western Civilization either.)

Pity that capsuleers aren't really citizens of a nation. They control too much for that to be the case. So then you're dealing with nation states. And there, this kind of thing is natural. Trade barriers are erected all over the place.

Use their poco for the posted tax rate. The small and organized will recognize you eventually and try not to gank you. The unorganized will try and gank you.

IF you contact them and they are used to it, they will work a deal with you. If they are not used to it, they will try and scam you. Better to just not contact them.

EDIT: And if you're talking about hisec, they're expecting you to just use it and pay the rate, so just use it and pay the rate.

There's nothing worse than an EVE player, generally considered to be top of the food chain in the MMO world, that cannot smacktalk with wit and coherency.

Free market capitalism works as thus...If the service is worth the cost use it. If it is not...don't. They want to keep high tax rates on POCO's let em. The markets will deal with that. Of course if you are dealing in PI mats for profit that tax rate will get transferred to the consumer. But as the EVE economy works, more times than not, people tend to sell at a loss to undercut the other guy destroying any hope of there ever being a stable economy.

Free market, means we are free to refuse service to those we do not like.

Have a nice day, and thank you for choosing GOONSWARM GALACTIC POCO SERVICE for all your POCO needs.
