I'm by no means a veteran although I've been around since 2006. Now I've decided to pick up on Steam's fantastic deal on a new account and perhaps even invest in a PLEX or two to try out something new. I've done mining and missions to death, unless more missions have been added?

So my question is, what can I start to do with this new starter pack I get through Steam? I've seen the new ships and a bunch of new skills to inject with a booster. Shall I pick up archeology? Is it worth the effort? Or production perhaps?

Anything can be fun, if you like to do that particular thing.

I like to PvP, this doesnt mean you will like it.
I like to mine, that doesnt mean you will like it.

This basically means nobody in EVE CAN tell you what you should be doing, because they are not you.

Archeology, as with all exploration, can be fun. Mainly because it requires a bit of effort and luck.
Production can be good once you have a bit of skills to minimize the costs and like to play around in spreadsheets.

Essentially (and I don't know how long you have been away) over the last couple of years we have had revamps on faction warfare, mining & gas sites, and exploration. FW is a great place to get started if you want to dive into some PVP (or there's plenty of newbie corps out there like RvB, EVE-University, and Brave Newbies). If you still want to mine there's the new Venture ORE frigate and plenty of opportunity with high-sec/low-sec ore & gas sites. If you want exploration, there are a ton of new sites and new mechanics for hacking & archaeology. To your question as to whether archaeology is worth it, yes it is. But don't go gunning straight for the new Sister's of EVE frigate/cruiser just yet until you settle in, as they have only been added in the last month and are expensive investments. Not much has changed in the way of manufacturing/production except the availability of materials. Welcome back!

*Edit - I do know how long you've been away because it is in the post title! Roll

It might be better playing your old character, especially if it has a lot of SP.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

This several times over.

It's very tempting to "start over" but in the end you'll most likely want to kick yourself silly over it some time later.

I know this on a very personal level since Ol' Uncle Lors is one of the victims of "I want to start over".

5 years in and relegated to a role as Forge market alt, forum poster and generic grump.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.
