Myrmidon L3s

I currently have practically all level V drone skills and level V BC. I basically have no gunnery skills.

Currently I am being lazy and putting 2 tractors and 2 salvagers in the top slots because my gun is only for aggro. I have now earned enough that I have purchased a Noctis, so I want to speed up my kill time so I can do mop up using the Noctis.

With minimal gun skills, would switching to a sentry drone fit be my best bet? All fits I can find on battleclinic related to sentries have them in the thick of things with guns. Like I said, my gun skills are terrible. Would a sentry sniper fit be viable?

If so, can someone give some examples? I have looked at the domi fits, but they are all based around using the MJD to dictate range.

Vexor Navy Issue is the ship you want.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

Myrmidon can have a lot of tank, but it can only field 4 sentries due to the lack of bandwith. As mentioned above, Navy Vexor costs pretty much the same when fit and also fields 5 sentry drones, which equals even MORE DPS.

Sure it has less tank, but remember that it has smaller sig and is more agile too, so tanking shouldn't be an issue in L3s, you'll pop everything before it even scratches your armor. I quickly threw this fit together:
[Vexor Navy Issue, PvE]
Drone Damage Amplifier II
Drone Damage Amplifier II
Drone Damage Amplifier II
Medium Armor Repairer II
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II

Omnidirectional Tracking Link II
Omnidirectional Tracking Link II
10MN Afterburner II
Cap Recharger II

200mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge M
200mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge M
Small Remote Armor Repairer II
[empty high slot]

Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I

Garde II x5
Bouncer II x3

750DPS with Garde IIs at 50km. You can throw out the bouncers if you want some light drones in case frigates get close, as in most L3s 90km optimal on sentries is overkill. The guns there are just for pulling aggro, so feel free to put anything that has a lot of range on it if you don't want big railguns.
Just keep in mind that this fit will not work well if you AFK or DC, as the ship itself is fairly squishy. You can add a plate instead of EANMs to give you more buffer just in case.

If you still insist on using a Myrmidon (it is safer after all), try something like this:
[Myrmidon, PvE]
Damage Control II
Medium Armor Repairer II
Medium Armor Repairer II
Drone Damage Amplifier II
Drone Damage Amplifier II
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II

10MN Afterburner II
Omnidirectional Tracking Link II
Omnidirectional Tracking Link II
Cap Recharger II
Cap Recharger II

Drone Link Augmentor II
Small Remote Armor Repairer II
250mm Railgun II, Iridium Charge M
250mm Railgun II, Iridium Charge M
250mm Railgun II, Iridium Charge M

Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I

Garde II x4
Hobgoblin I x5
Warden II x3

Gardes are your main DPS (~530) again, feel free to play with other sets as you see fit (wardens have crazy optimal). I might have skimped out on drone damage mods to give you more tank. This WILL survive any L3 as long as you keep killing things at a reasonable rate. And again, feel free to use other guns if you want.

Edit: Fixed DPS numbers to be more accurate.
Edit2: Since you seem to be absolutely new to sentries, keep in mind that they can't move at all, so you need to be relatively stationary to pull them back in case of drone aggro too.
Sentries don't have the best of tracking too, so it is smart to stay back with them and 'snipe', as they WILL miss orbiting frigates. So in L3s your target priority would be Frigs>Destroyers>Cruisers>BCs. I don't recall seing any battleships in L3s, so forget about those until you get into L4s.
In L4s (which I presume you are aiming for), target priority remains the same as you want to kill things off before they get under your sentry tracking. That is why MJD Dominix is so good at the moment - jump, blap frigs and then kill the rest as it slowboats towards you.
The idea behind most sentry boats is DPS before tank, which means that you fit as many drone mods as you can to maximize sentry DPS and kill everything before it even gets to you. And you REALLY want to keep range, as orbiting NPCs = bad for all slow tracking gun platforms, sentries included. (keep in mind that Navy Vexor has drone tracking bonus, so you don't have to worry about this nearly as much)

Thanks for the replies guys! I have never actually used a sentry, so it will take me a bit to get the feel for when to use each type.

Right now I only have BS at 3 and Cruiser at 4. So there is some balance for me between the Myrm since I have BC 5.

Sentry myrm works okay and is the decent balance you want. Myrm has the slots to support omnis and the spare highs to support DLAs. It should work pretty well for what you're doing, and will of course leverage your SP investment into the GAL BC skill. No need to jump out of the myrm.

In general, sentries are the only viable drone choice for high-end PVE in a drone ship, and sentries perform at the top level with other ships for level 4's, ratting, and exploration combat plexes. If you're drone-specialized, then training sentry drones 5 and either gal BS 5 or for an Ishtar is absolutely the thing to do.

The most important things about sentries is their damage type, damage mod, tracking, and optimal range. Generally you carry one set of gardes for close range, high tracking, and thermal DPS, and one set of long range drones from among the 3 other types, depending on the rats you face.

Ishtar - Super good, top tier. THE sentry ship. Works with heavies and is generally versatile in its PVP applications
Gila - also quite good, works as a brawler. Native shield tanker, not reliant on t2 resistances, lacks the sentry bonuses of the ishtar.
Vexor Navy Issue - I dont' fly this ship. it works with sentry drones, but its much more naturally a heavy drone boat.
domi - old warhorse is stronger than ever. Dedicated sentry battleship.
domi navy issue - high sp version of the original dominix with the double damage bonus. Needs guns, can be shield tanked, lacks the range/tracking bonuses of the domi, which is significant
RS - very nice ship, also versatile. friendly to low SP. Its a drone boat first, 0 missile SP required. Renowned as the best tank in the game
Geddon - neuts are for pvp
Eos - haven't tried it since it was rebalanced. Guessing its pretty good.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

Based on the advice in this thread, I sold everything I had and bought a Dominix (don't fly what you can't afford...well...I will just be careful Ugh). Using Gardes inside of 60km and Wardens out to around 130km.

I am still in L3s, but holy crap, they are so much easier now. These sentries absolutely obliterate all ships found in L3 missions. I was even able to do the bonus level in Angel Extravaganza with ease (I could not do this with my Myrm, and it is actually what prompted me to sell everything...including my Myrm...and buy a Dominix).

Slowly working my way to L4s. Thanks for the help again guys.
