A lot of players consider the droneboat protey to not be a thing. It's a thing. I've got quite a few dozen kills with it and I find it unparalleled in versatility for a sub-battleship. Here's the problem though, it's often forced to retreat because of the shockingly small dronebay.
To have spare damage drones, one must forfeit life-preserving utility drones, and players realise this, so rather than shooting you, they shoot your dps. An addition 75m3 bay, rounding it up to a nice 300, would go a long way to balancing this issue. Obviously I'd ideally want the full 400, but I'm willing to compromise, and make no mistake: 300 is still small, just less painfully so.

Take a second to note how many partial and dedicated droneboats now exist with well in excess of 225 bay. Stratios, Ishtar, Gila, are all cruiser size but boast heavy drone dps combined with ample bay. Remember when it was proposed to reduce the drone band/bay of marauders and the loss of spare bay for utility drones was found unacceptable? How is this any different?

Also, rats eat drones like they were made of cylon-catnip, so where's the love for those using the proteus to mission? Nb. I do not do this. There might be people that do, or want to, but can't because of the SUCKY DRONE BAY. *Ahem* Sorry.

Also, if you're considering the tiny bay of the navy vexor as a counter arguement, I see multiple reasons why the Navy Vex's small bay is justifiable. The low pricetag, the ease to skill into, the already competitive dps and tank/speed it is capable of. Mostly I just think having more bay on a navy vex would make the ishtar mostly obsolete, whereas the Protey needs to be a more competetive droneboat for all the isk, SP and risk being poured into it by the player.

I wasn't aware of that as I've only ever flown a ham/neut legion. I have an eft build of a drone one but I must be using a different combination of subs, leaving me with 200 m3 bay.

Still, that's quite an arguement in favour. Even 200m3 bay is proportionally far, far more generious, allowing for multiple spares and utility drones.
