How does bounty work? When you set a bounty on someone do you have to have the bounty money on you? Or do you pay after the job is done? Is there any way to remove bounty other than getting killed?

You need to have the funds when you place the bounty on someone's head. I do not think you can then revoke a bounty once it has been placed. When the poor person dies (his ship is destroyed, it doesn't have to be his pod), you will get a notification telling you that your bounty has been claimed. Hope that helps!

When you place a bounty, you have to pay the money upfront.
As far as I know, there is no "friendly" way to remove a bounty; i.e. the giver cannot change his mind later.

Which means the only way to get rid of a bounty is to have your ship exploded by another player. As only 20% of the ship value will be paid out, you might have to lose several ships until to get rid of it completely. If you really want to get rid of a bounty now, you can get a friend to kill you until the bounty is gone. (Any kill, even a duel, will count.) But as only 20% of the lost value is paid out, you will lose far more ISK than the bounty.

Also, a bounty doesn't change the rules of engagement, e.g. CONCORD will still avenge you in high-sec. So it doesn't really matter whether you have one or not. In rare cases it might make someone chose you as a target instead of an identical ship flying beside you, but that's usually not important enough to explode your own ships just to clear it.

Amount of bounty claimed by killing someone is 20% of the value of the ship, up to the total bounty amount. So if someone has a 10 million bounty on them and you blow up a ship of theirs that's worth 20 million, you get 4 million of the bounty and the person still has 6 million bounty on their head.

There's no way to remove a bounty that you've placed.

Since CCP saw fit to make the bounty system utterly meaningless, I saw fit to taint n00bs with the WANTED moniker. It elicits a great deal of n00btearz (which is my drink of choice) as the big criminal flag against their pasty-white straight-from-WOW "I just wanna craft in my guild" faces really butthurts them.

Ofc it's even funnier that some n00b mining/indy corps won't recruit those with bounties. The lulz.

I'm just here to make you feel WANTED

What.

Send me a name, I'll try putting bounties on their CEO just to see what happens. You know, for science.

The lulz....

Indeed.
