I've been thinking about the new areas Stargates will open up in the future. I find it quite exciting! Big smile

http://www.vg247.com/2013/11/18/eve-rubicon-sets-up-ccps-greatest-mystery-yet-interview

I shall speculate some:

1) Star gate will open to one new star system. New Eden side will have a gate. New star system side will be a permanent wormhole as long as the New Eden gate is open. It is possibly a new technology that does not require a star gate on the other side.

2) Colonists will be able to build a new star gate in the new system to connect to another new system.

3) Star gates will possibly be permanent installations like Outposts, but have systems that can be attacked and disabled as well thereby shutting down the gate until it can be repaired. Or star gates can be destroyed thereby trapping colonists on the other side just like New Eden was originally. Pop your pod to clone back or what not. Or it will be like an outpost with facilities and docking that can be damaged, but the gate will forever remain open.

4) Systems will be randomly generated with a big pool of possible elements. Some systems will be great and others will be so-so. Or as star gates are brought on line, CCP will connect the gates with systems they build.

5) The Tech had to come from somewhere, so the pirate factions possibly discovered it from the 4 ancient civs like sleepers etc. Or the pirates developed it, but I kind of doubt it.

6) Alliances in null sec will be the only groups that build new star gates. As it will require a huge amount of resources, team work, and skilled pilots. Everyone else will simply be cut off by the existing bottle necks.

7) New star systems will give the feeling of an infinite universe as long as you can keep building star gates to new systems. But with the star gate system it is still a finite box in a way. You can't just kick on your warp drive and take off into the unknown. This is a way to expand the box with great possibilities. Ugh.. feeling claustrophobic... our world is a box as is our solar system. The galaxy is a box. The universe is really just a big box. haha Big smile

8) Whatever happens I am excited to see what is found when the new star gates open.

new stargate feature sounds a bit cheesy then again sounds a bit nice, would be like your own personal back door key on takeing someone elses space Shocked

That would be really cool if you could build a star gate and open to an existing system on a permanent basis. Other star gates could be built to point to new systems permanently. Quite a variety of possibilities!

I could see why Concord and the empires would get hacked off if capsuleers did that.

I think its a great direction for EvE, and I'm loving all the new details we are learning.

Even more useless space.

But its all yours!

allowing players to build stargates without allowing those stargates to be destroyed would be a huge blunder on the part of CCP.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

Never forget.

I have always wanted a true system to build useful space with really useful facilities. Complete with players being able to increase security status of 0.0 to the point where they can employ a NPC alliance fleet like Concord. But of course, the player fleets could be defeated by other players.

They could make them destroyable, but have a way to reconnect to that star system later. Like a beacon that the new star gate to connect to.

Re-posting the same interview on Fanfest speculation as half-dozen different people have and then brainfarting on the subject has no relevance to the actual EVE in existence and belongs in Out of Pod Experience, mkay?

You are a mean, mean person. P

But as "Out of Pod" is for anything not EvE related you are obviously wrong.

From the "Out of Pod" rules:

"2. Unlike all other forums on the website, all posts here do not have to be related to EVE. In fact, they should not be related to EVE. The purpose of this forum is for all posts not related to EVE."

P

Edit:

And as the interview was with CCP chief marketing officer David Reid, it is not just Fanfest speculation. See my signature. Smile

Honestly, I think infinity is a little short of where I want stargates to go.

I want them to go to infinity... AND BEYOND!

Hmmm...mkay, I found a better place for it. EVE Fiction appears to be the repository for content not in development and unlikely to ever be.

If you are going to insult people, you should at least read the interview first.

Feature for Null Sec alliances so it wont touch me at all, but I think it is quite interesting one. But to be honest, how much benefit would it bring to alliance. I mean you sink a lot of resources into stargate while your enemy is building ships. What new systems will have? If it is just your normal null sec solar system then why not just take one from your rival. What is incentive to build stargates. I guess we will find out in future. Roll

This. Part of the danger of uncharted systems should be that you can get cut off if someone blows up your gate. Only way in and out, until you build a new one, is with a cyno bridge.

*Edited version:

I'm not trying to insult anybody, but it is speculation, not guaranteed features. Here:

Excerpt 1:
“People will have a couple of expansions to think about this and to run their own little ‘water cooler’ bets as to what’s on the other side of the door, or down the rabbit hole if you will, pick your analogy."

I recommend the possibility of slow-boating it to the galaxy as well. 2 million years or so.

Or wormholes.

Excellent question Demica. There must be something really good on the other side. If not when the first one opens and the discovery is like the "Price is Right fail theme", then there will be no reason.

I hope its a whole new galaxy, like w-space, but with the ability to build gates between systems and the only way to get there in the first place is through wormholes.

Sov can be gained, you can build to neighboring systems, you can cyno just like normal null, but detached from existing New Eden on the other side of a wormhole. That way you can create a new empire out there.

Can't wait to dual box my Dust toon and EVE toon on the same machine!

because shooting at structures with massive hp is such fun ccp decided to add more in the future. also there are not enough mechanics for alliance force projection across the map lets add more
