Predictions for Rubicon

Anybody have any predictions for Rubicon they want to get on the record so that you can give a proper "I told you so" hereafter?

My own are:

1) the warp speed changes will be severely and partially nerfed by bringing the warp changes back to where they were pre-rubicon for ships larger then a cruiser after there is a loud howl from the players (the majority of whom dont pay attention to the forums) when they realize that flying a bs, orca, freighter, barge, exhumer, and indy has become totally unbearable. Carebears in particular will scream, since flying a freighter already a tedious activity becomes tortuous. (As an aside, I dont know if anybody else has ever bothered to do the eve survey that gets sent around by ccp in the mail - but i always get a kick out of the question that asks in sum and substance on a scale of 1 to 10 rate the statement "eve is always fun").

2) the ghost sites will be nerfed/altered to eliminate the self destruct timer once carebears start complaining about the unfairness of a hidden timer which destroys their ships without regard to the skill of the player, and which can be "abused" for tears in highsec.

I don't play, I just fourm warrior.

I actually really, really hope this one doesn't happen. I know it probably will, but bleh.

Ghost sites need a mechanic like that to help make them something harder than the other exploration sites we have now.

I understand what you're saying but the hidden timer doesn't really make the sites "harder" as it is unconnected to player skill. Its simply a random fail condition which a player has no control over. If you ever played one of those other mmo's and done a raid where the raid failed wiping an entire party of 24 players not because of anything the players did but just because the RNG said so, then you know what type of angst and teeth gnashing this mechanism is going to generate.

1. Pretty sure I read that the ships that warp slower than 3.0 au/s aren't having their travel times changed much as they are already slow enough to have their travel times affected by low cruising speed. Battleships are where it will hurt the most. Probably the Orca too.

They may do something about fast warping ships appearing or disappearing from grid in a single tick, either by slowing deceleration speed so you can see a ceptor landing on you, or introducing an effect to indicate when someone has warped (although this exists, a targetted ship that gets destroyed blinks, a warping ship just disappears).

2. won't change because the pirates always spawn first giving you a warning, also the explosion should be tankable by larger ships like a buffer-fit t3.

Yeah, but compared to EVE, those raid-wipes were nothing (which makes all the screeching nerds I had to listen to even more pathetic in hindsight) in terms of loss. Expect to see at least one QQ thread by someone losing a deadspace fit cov ops frig to one of these.

Half of Rubicon will be DOA and require at least 4 patches and 19 stealth patches to fix, the other half will need to be nerfed due to the tsunami of tears from carebears whos d-scans no longer give them enough time to run.





Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Or CCP could just leave it the way it is and sell more Highsec PvE accounts/PLEX.

I think the landing speed of ships is still a lot slower, but the acceleration phase will be a lot quicker, to avoid people just popping up randomly without warning.

Warp speed changes are fine.

It also means that interceptors will have to hold ships for a hell of a lot longer until the rest of the gang lands on grid. I have a feeling that quite a few interceptor pilots won't take this into account until they are already in a pod. ;)

I'll concede that to a point.

At the same time, though, exploration greatly needs some sort of new gimmick; I love scanning and jumping around looking for cool new things... But after having run oh-so-many sites in both lowsec and high, I'm starting to yearn for something to spice it up. A hidden timer is cheap and annoying, yes. But at least it keeps me on my toes? Maybe?

Hopefully exploration will get some better/actual challenges later on.

More often than not, the rest of the gang will wait outside of the system ready to jump once the interceptor calls that they have their target pointed.

Less chance that the target will instantly get the hell out of dodge when they only see +1 in local. ;)

um no, the ratio between acceleration cruising and deceleration is still 1/1/3 according to the dev blog.

Warp for larger ships isn't actually all that bad, they didn't increase the speed for them as much as they decreased it for smaller vessels. It "is" noticeable however, so we'll get some protests as to how this will ruin EVE travel forever. Smile

On a tactical level things will be a lot more interesting, and FC decisions concerning repositioning will get more complicated.

The most howling will come from miners and ratters who will now have something new to blame their losses on, despite the fact that they would have lost their ship regardless.

100+ page threadnaught will the Nullbear Blocs complaining that all there POSes have siphons on them. This makes them have to go out and destroy them in boring fleets patroling there large amounts of space. CCP will cave and make POS guns shoot the siphons.

Um yes, that's what I was referring to. Deceleration takes 3 times as long.

If anything, the ghost sites are not nearly dangerous enough right now.

The explosion should force the player to decide if they should keep popping cans to maximize their loot, or bug out before **** gets real.

Unfortunately, the explosion is trivially tankable, which nullifies the decision. There's NO reason you shouldn't just keep popping cans until you eat the explosion - you'll be fine.

If nothing else, hacking the sites in high or low sec should give a suspect flag - this would at least keep with the whole, "Concord doesn't want you doing this," theme for the sites.
