Something I think is missing from the Mastery and ISIS Ship Tree.

OK. So, I've been thinking about this for a while, and I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else, so here goes.

This is a two-parter, part two stemming from the idea that was part one.

Part one: Since the Ship Tree can show all this data about ships you can or can't fly and their different mastery levels, I feel like it would help consolidate if saved fits, be they personal or corporate, but especially corporate, would have an icon or in some way be accessible for any given ship while in ship view.

Part two: For maximum effectiveness of part one, I think when a fit is saved it should be auto-assigned a mastery level. I realize that the mastery levels as they currently stand may not actually represent what skills a pilot should have to fly a fit, but it'd at least be a minimum absolute requirement, and this could be supplemented by the mentioned wished-for 'corp assigned mastery levels'.

These, in conjunction, would allow a capsuleer to not only see what ships they can sit in and fly at different mastery levels within the ship tree, and plan accordingly, but do the same for progressing through training for a corp's doctrine or suggested fits.

This, this is a great idea. Seconded.

While I think part two mostly adds needless complexity, I absolutely agree with this idea.

ISIS has the potential to become an incredibly useful - and powerful - tool, with this being just one of the possible ways it can be expanded upon.

+1 for this.

Love the general idea. Something like when you click on a ship, if you or your corp (or even possibly alliance) has a fit for that ship it should display those fits. It could be a right click menu deal or even open something similar to the saved fits window.

Plus if there is a mastery for ships it wouldnt be hard (though time consuming) to make them for modules allowing you to assess your mastery of said ship and fit. I could see this being amazing for doctrines both for larger and smaller corps/alliances.

I agree that part two is pretty clunky and needs work, but I feel like fits could be assigned mastery levels. Some corp fits are directed at lower SP characters, with some other fits for the same boats being tight enough to need all support skills at V. This was directed at situations like that.

I don't agree, that complexity is already there, it's just not visual so it ends up being more of a concept.
It's the same with ships. The only real danger I see for this idea would be that the current ship mastery already covers most of what players would fit on that ship already making it redundant.

Part one is a solid idea, part two is a nice to have. +1

I realy like this idea and I think the first part would be really useful.

I agree with most of OP's points.

The point of the UI is to elucidate as much of the complexity of the game as possible, representing profound relationships with simple, intuitive imagery. I think the introduction of ISIS partially achieves that, but I also believe that it's a work in progress, and OP's suggestions would certainly be a step in the right direction in meshing together the fitting browser and the new ship tree that, in my mind, belong together.

Wouldn't this mean that most fits are mastery level 1 or 2? maybe 3 at a push? All the masteries seem to be full of fairly useless skills (Drone durability IV being needed to get anything with a dronebay past 2 for example, or shield comps being needed on...anything really).

Hell, my tengu alt is mastery level one, because she's not got much in the way of scanning skills. Nevermind the fact that she merrily flies around in one for PVP when the call goes out.

The masteries aren't that great a guideline.

That's a good idea, I've been given some fit's for pvp and up until now I have literally been studying every skill in every section to see which ones will give me a bonus not just to the ships, but to the modules. I haven't studied ISIS fully yet but I think even as is it's going to be a useful tool, this would just make it even better. +1 Big smile
