Position of probes

Hello forums!

I wasn't sure where to post this but I figured this place would be semi-relevant.

So, when probing was overhauled the probes have had this new ~feature~ of returning to their previous position when re-dropped. This is one of the most annoying things that I experience on a daily basis. I use probes for damn near everything and to have them appear miles away from where I actually dropped them is a massive pain in the ass.

This is totally not a new idea of mine or anything, rather a request to return to the previous mechanic. When probes are dropped, have them appear where the ship is, not where they were when pulled in from.

This is especially annoying when combat probing. Sometimes you need to be able to drop probes and run them right away. Having to drag and reposition them from across the map is frustrating and often lets the target get away with plenty of time to spare. I can see the advantage of having the probes return to their previous position but its far from convenient for everyone so having it as a togglable option or something could be nice?

Anyway, just something that has been bugging me for a long time now. Figured Id post it and see vOv

Actually, this feature is pretty nice when the timer ran out and they were put back in your cargo. You can just drop them again and they are exactly where they were before.

But:

If you change the system, the position of the probes from the previous system should not be carried over. An option to turn this behavior of in a way you described (ยง4) would be interesting for some.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

Yeah, you are right that is has its uses and saves some time. But for other things is makes probing that much more tedious.

When probes used to drop beside your ship, they also did not drop in a formation. Probes dropping in automatic formations right next to your ship was recognized right away as something that would make on-grid combat probing hilariously overpowered, so CCP decided to implement some balance by making them drop at the sun instead. If you want to probe on-grid you'll have to drag them over to your location.
