RSI with Scanning or Improve Scanning with Less Mouse Clicks

Dear CCP

Over the past few months I have moved into wormholes that I really enjoy.

However, I have since developed a wrist condition from the amount of scanning I have to do. I understand that scanning creates adventure however probing a hole with 20 signatures requires a huge amount of resizing, moving etc..

To describe my wrist complaint I would also include numbness of my left click finger too.

Without upsetting the community (oh scanning becoming too easy) I would like to raise this as a serious health hazard to your subscriber base.

Is there a way that we could identify signature types a little easier still each one requiring the current technique, just simply to save someone an hour scanning of repetitive wrist movement to find that the desired signature is there or not?

Please don't accept this as a whine but someone who spends a few hours a day scanning relentlessly followed by painful and limited physical ability directly as a result of the current technique.

Thank you

Sorry to hear about your injury. Hope you can find a way around this, try and get lots of rest.

Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction...

With Odyssey "exploration" got the "Easy Mode" applied to it.

Combat Probes now show too much information far too soon for very little effort to the point where you can pick what you want to drop on and just work on that very quickly at low % signal strength.

Probe formations got an overhaul and skills got funked all over the place for exploration to remove the complexity and "open "exploration" up to the masses" so my thoughts are that you are not in the right environment or you are doing it wrong.

RSI is a common complaint for regular computer users (8 hours at work and 6-10 hours at home per day for me) and you should ensure you take steps to remove the risk by using a wrist rest, exercises etc. PI is one mother of a clickfest and should be dealt with before exploration is looked into again as it hasn't been changed since it was launched and would not impact the game as much as "easier than easy scanning mode" would.

Hope you get better soon and best stay away from the mouse for a while.

Sidenote: Please change the thread title to be more descriptive. "Dear CCP" will not get CCP to view your idea and this should include what area your thread relates to e.g. "RSI with Scanning or Improve Scanning with Less Mouse Clicks".

Makes it easier for people to jump into your idea and it's better for the community.

CCP addressed this. Its called Odyssey. It made scanning way easier/faster/less-clicking already, it made us not lose results from previous scans, and it made signature types identifiable at much lower result-strengths. It also gave us one probe to manage instead of 8. You're welcome.

Also, if scanning has given you an injury, I think you should re-examine your priorities and stop living in a wormhole.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

Never forget.

Batelle,

I was waiting for a reply such as yours and you delivered as expected.

Now I shall deliver my more formal response....

CCP have a DUTY OF CARE to it's customers. If it's customers are receiving injuries from their product and it can be proven that there was a better way of doing things then CCP is legally responsible.

Yes they have made improvements but it obviously does not go far enough if I am fit, healthy & strong to receive RSI from this game then there is a problem.

If I have to limit my game time to avoid injury then the risk of injury still exists to other players. At least CCP should recognise this and issue an RSI warning. As much as I love this game it is excessive on mouse action that CAN be reduced for player safety if the developers wanted too.

The fact CCP spend more time on new player content than improving current content demonstrates a low to medium focus on player health & safety.

Furthermore, a lack of response from CCP to this forum post could be seen as negligence.

TL:DR

If a company provides a service that causes injury to it's customers telling them not to use their service or reduce the consumption of their service is not acceptable.

The act of playing football involves running around and getting some exercise. Are you suggesting that companies who sell the footballs are responsible for any injuries sustained while playing the game?

Your last post came across as angry and I lost any sympathy I had for you after reading the original post. Don't blame CCP. If playing Eve Online causes you pain then that's unfortunate, but CCP are not responsible.

The football manufacturer in your analogy would be the IT infrastructure in Eve terms. Football players receiving injuries would be the club's concern..ie. CCP in eve terms.

If I smoke cigarettes that cause cancer then being told to smoke less doesn't remove the health risk.

I'm not angry...mildly irritated by the dismissal of 'don't like it? go do something else mentality'.

You should be able to prove that you got that RSI from EvE and not some other activity (for example this, or any other game or even by simply browsing internet pages as it involves comparable amount of clicks as EvE does). Also i'm not sure about "I am fit, healthy & strong" part if scanning being dumbed down to its current level makes you ill.

Opinions are like assholes. Everybody got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks.
