PLEX for Philippines

You guys are no doubt aware of the tragedy Philippines, as the result of the passing of hurricane Haiyan. This disaster has potentially cost the lives of over ten of thousands of people, and has bereft much the rest of that country of families, friends and homes.

As such, I propose we petition CCP to create a PLEX for good (https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/PLEX_for_GOOD) campaign to assist the victims of this current disaster.

All who are in favour, please bump and endorse!

Addendum
As there seem to be some misunderstanding here let me make clear the following points:

1)
Just to clarify how this works, certain individuals buy PLEX, generated from GTC which are baught with real money. These can be freely traded in game. In PLEX for good campaigns, CCP takes the plexes donated by players out of the game, and for each PLEX gives 14 dollars to the stated causes via accredited charities. Hence all donation result in a contribution in real money.

2)
I am VERY aware you can also donate money directly to accredited charities (I did so myself, via Salvation Army UK, Ref: TSA0097916), or to assist in the disaster relief effort personally.

However it does not follow that having an excess of ISK in game equates to having excessive wealth in real life, some players may simply be in a better position to donate in game currency than in hard cash.

CCP will pay USD 14 for every PLEX cashed in. Thus there is no difference between donating in real life and in game, since every PLEX handed in is the direct equivalent of a 14 dollar donation.

3)
A number of individuals has raised the idea of going to assist with the disaster relief effort in person. Frankly that is not really a possibility for most players in this game. The vast majority of eve players are based in the western hemisphere, where most jobs are long term commitments with relatively fixed work hours.

Besides, disaster relief is quite a specialised skill set. I was there for the Phuket Tsunami, the 2011 Thai floods and the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis in Burma. Driven but unskilled amateur relief workers, while very commendable, are viewed as marginally useful at best, and at worst a waste of desperately needed resources and housing.

If you have the flexible work hour and the skill set for this, and are assisting with the relief effort, then you have my wholehearted respect and admiration. However, the majority of people here will not be able to follow your shining example, sadly.

NEW INFORMATION:

http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/11/11/21405594-the-recovery-stage-is-the-longest-phase-americans-gear-up-to-help-philippines?lite

Over last weekend the first team of US personnel made up of military veterans who work with first responders, prepared packages of food, supplies and medical items shipped out to assist in rebuilding communities throughout the Philippines. A second team leaves this weekend.

By an amazing stroke of coincidence, almost to the degree that leads one to think it is more than fortuitous chance, the name of this task force:

"Team Rubicon"

Vaera Vahrokha runs a isk to plex conversion service for those who would like to assist, but perhaps cannot afford a whole PLEX or simply does not wish the inconvenience waiting for info regarding charitable drives and donating a PLEX themselves. He is verified by CCP, scamming PLEX drives is a permabann offense and he has been doing this longer than I have been aware PLEX drives existed.

A few words from the man himself:

"Regardless whether you prefer donating PLEX, ISK or real cash, it's all good."

I will from now on be reserving this Post specifically for any information Vaera wishes to convey.

Bumped for the lives lost and those that were fortunate enough to be alright. I would love to see CCP do something about the real world here. Internet spaceships are all good and all, but things like this pull us out of the atmosphere back to the said state of our RL.

Forgive me for sounding a bit...negative, but would it not be simpler to just donate straight to the red cross or whatever charity you feel best supports the effort?

They are to cheap tp part with their own RL money but want CCP to do it instead. If they really want to help they know what to do, which isn't coming here and telling CCP what they should do with their money.

That is a fair question, lol, I have certainly done so (in the name of Tengu Skunkworks no less!) , to salvation army UK (Ref: TSA0097916). It is not a huge sum, but it is what I can comfortably afford.

However, I am sure some players would appreciate the being given the choice of being able to do some good with their isk. It does not follow that having an excess of isk in game equates to having excessive wealth in real life, and if CCP is willing to convert this isk into real money for a good cause, I say it is a good thing.

Mostly because people can do it with in game money. People who might otherwise be unable to offer their support.

If you want to help and you have the means, either donate your money through a registered charity organization or go out there and help. The people in the Philippines, nor the thousands of people undertaking the aid effort, are not going to even compute the fact that a bunch of gamers gave up some of their precious InterStellar Kredits earned in their leisure time. It's a self-absorbed and grandiose gesture for the benefit only of patting yourself on the back within this forum. It's a real-world situation and you know what to do if you want to help. Be honest.
