An open letter to the community on the subject of transparency and accountability

My fellow players:

I have recently become concerned at the state of the sandbox. Certain actions taken by CCP employees have cast serious doubts upon its dedication to maintaining the freedom of sandbox style gameplay.

Instead of taking time to answer some questions that have emerged over the past week or so, ISD members have begun arbitrarily locking threads under false premises. Locking threads is not going to stop us from asking our legitimate questions about these happenings. We, as paying customers, hereby demand that our questions are answered.

These questions, if left unanswered have the very real potential to hurt CCP's bottom line. This is the last thing any of us want to see. We want to see a growing player-base, not a shrinking one. CCP's recent actions are nothing but damaging.

My fellow players, I implore you to demand transparency and accountability from CCP. I'm afraid our game won't survive another scandal-racked year such as this one.

In the wake of the SOMER Blink scandal, CCP owe the player base full transparency. What we have seen in recent days does not speak to a new age of transparency or accountability. Indeed, CCP seems to be quickly falling back into its old bad habits. For instance, CCP has so far ignored the emerging skillpoints scandal. What little acknowledgement there has been has come, unfortunately, in the form of threads on this topic being locked.

If this continues, the sandbox will slip away from us, and we will be forced to petition Sony, as CCP will go out of business. For CCP to turn its back on transparency and accountability is to turn its back to the player base.

I think this bit is often overplayed as we don't really know this to be true.

However, I agree that there are many things recently that have identified a trend away from a sandbox due to CCP involvement in in game activities or GM intervention on issues.

I wish it would just be left alone.

What happens, happens and we are all responsible for our choices and the consequences of those choices.

[/Policy]

That's what I would like it to be. Provide a safe place for new players to the game around the starter systems and leave everything else well enough alone. Back to the hard and sometimes harsh sandbox; and let the charity and support come from players (and a lot of that happens too) and not from GM intervention unless its something associated with a breech of EULA or an exploit.

Sadly, I am beginning to lose hope on the promise of transparency.

I have created 4 threads this year to try and address the overwhelming complacency and apathy that CCP shows toward EvE now. And they want 10 more years....seriously? Lol.

I suppose it is because they are making sooooooooo much money on DUST. Roll

Sadly, I am beginning to lose faith in CCP. And as faith in CCP, arguably my favorite multiplayer game developer, wanes, so does the feeling that I need X amount of accounts open.

No, I will not unsub.

No, you cannot have my crap.

But seriously, what reason does CCP give anymore to justify pouring cash into the game?

Any?

Legitimate concerns made by many players in the sandbox.......completely ignored.

Why? When a simple statement can put fears to rest............just like after the last debacle.

I am starting to believe that age old adage that "EvE is Dying." And it is heading that way because CCP just doesn't care anymore.

tl;dr "all my previous threads about the 'skillpoint scandal' got locked, so here is yet another one."

I missed the 'skillpoint scandal' because I'm still dealing with trying to get my 16B back following the Gold Magnate mayhem. Can someone give me a quick summary?

There have been about 5 scandals, 3 perpetrated by CCP's favorites, SOMER BLINK, in the past year.

If you think that this has to do with only the SP reimbursement, then you are truly delusional.

Sorry, I just try to be honest with people.

Big smile

*edit*

And strangely enough.....all 5 scandals have had to do with the EULA and the ToS.

RULES CCP PUT INTO PLACE.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by a secret santa scheme, however, your tl;dr is a gross oversimplification that represents the sort of complacency that is killing the sandbox.

My friends, let me be clear: this is not about one or two locked threads. This is about the bigger issues. This is about transparency and accountability.

I love this community, and I love this game. That being said, the community deserves better that what we've been given in recent months.

I'll be checking out Erotica 1's press conference later today. I understand that there will be new details released in regards to the skillpoints scandal. I hope to see certain actions taken by CCP reversed before the presser, as I imagine it will be embarassing for them, and that is the last thing I want to see.

Given their handling of the Somer debacle, and what GMs are now apparently saying about that, I doubt we will see anything other than more ostrich management.

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!

As another paying customer, I hereby demand you take your demands and stuff them up your butt. I want them up there deep too, don't half step, use force when inserting.

Seriously, you wouldn't demand answer like this from any other service provider, so you can pretty much get bent, I hope they never say a word, if you don't like the service you're being provided, seek greener pastures.

Actually, when my ISP decided to screw up my service for a month, I demanded compensation. Guess what I received?

A month's worth of compensation.

And trust me, my ISP's customer service is ****.

What is so wrong with demanding answers to consistent favoritism?

What is so wrong with demanding answers as to why CCP decides to pick and choose who has to follow the rules, and who gets a free pass?

What is so wrong with expecting the transparency that the CEO of the company promised the playerbase, in an open letter to them?

Once you can explain what is so wrong with those things to me, I might be able to take you seriously.

You don't seem to understand what a 'demand' is, in this context. It already implies what you think you're offering as a superior alternative, by implying: "fix this problem, or everyone supporting this petition will seek greener pastures."

Now, previous 'demands' by EVE players have shown that sometimes these demands are serious, and something they're just hot air, and the makers don't intend to quit if not addressed.

You also don't seem to understand the parallelism of the situation. since you are also a paying customer, a parallel demand would be for you to demand that CCP intensify their recent trend towards favoritism and secrecy. I would definitely like to see that one put up for a transparent vote by the playerbase; much more interested in that vote than any CSM vote, whatever voting system is used.

Your attempt at a humorous parallel 'demand' is nothing but a lame and predictable personal attack.

I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at. I am, however, sure that you don't understand what you are getting at.

I would ask you to familiarize yourself with the details of the skillpoints scandal before entering into the discussion with an abstract and aloof argument that doesn't make a lot of sense, and is made from a position of ignorance.

Assuming that anything you can't understand is definitely nonsensical is a great way to never learn anything new in this world. I pity you for your fear of the unknown.

Are you sure you don't want to turn that request into a demand?

Either way, I'm already completely familiar with the details. "an abstract and aloof argument that doesn't make a lot of sense, and is made from a position of ignorance. " That actually describes your attempt at a refutation to a T. You made no specific references, and concretely stated that you didn't understand what you were replying to. 3/10 for perfect self-reference.
