Ship Destruction

My suggestion, change, or feature isn't really a necessary or has to be done soon kinda thing... I was just thinking they are working on all the details of the guns coming out and pointing at the targets and down to even your body after your ship gets blow up which is all cool and I like it but why haven't we looked at how the ships get destroyed and work on that?

Maybe I am missing something or there is some reason it hasn't been looked at or done, but with how beautiful eve is and getting with every expansion! Why can't when your ship blows up the image just disappears? Why doesn't it break up into like junks of debris or just random debris pieces that fly out.

Suggestions? Comments? Ideas?

Have you considered the load on people's computers trying to display that kind of effect in a 200 vs 200 situation?

Maybe destroing only ship you have camera set to. It would have minimal impact on performance i guess.

With some simple LOD (level of detail) implementation, this is totally plausible. Less detail the further away the camera is from the object.

Also, 200 vs 200 situations don't have every ship blowing up at once.

I am sure they could think of something to keep the speed down and processing power. Worse it could just be an option like other things on eve. Like the gun effects and shadowing.

I love the idea. I don't think it's necessary to make a whole new set of explosion animations though, just make ships drop wrecks that look like the ships and keep the current animation, and I'd be set for a few years till everyone's computers could handle full destruction animations reliably. At that point, make it an option, like rendered drones.

I wish you saw the most successful bomber runs...

Opinions are like assholes. Everybody got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks.

Yeah not saying anything with the explosion animations totally fine with those as well haha It would be nice! Let's see what they say?

Anyone else?

it's an interesting idea, if there are no objects/entities being created when the ship dies (besides the wreck) on the server side, then this might be a good idea to run in client side, little effect on the server performance (basically the same as now) and have it as something optional on the client. (thats if your talking about the ship breaking apart upon destruction)

now... if your talking about the ship breaking apart when being shot at eg; wings being shot off from the tempest when taking damage, that might be a little different

I would just be happy with the ship breaking into pieces when it is finally destroyed. That would be enough for me. Big smile

Cause with the wings being shot off and stuff it maybe a little harder and more coding specially if your using a repair less your wings come back.

But still would be happy with just random debris coming out right now better then my ship just vanishing and a star burst come from it in one center location....
