Marauder for running Hordes in null

I like to kill everything at range.

I like the Golem but cruise missiles are a bit slow & torps necessitate the need to get closer than I prefer.

I have sort of decided i need a laser boat but have no experience with lasers although i have the skills at a very high level.

Please could you suggest a Marauder fit which will be able to kill at range using lasers. The fit can be anything really as I can fly all classes of Marauder ship & use all laser weapon types. I understand that T1 crystals last forever but T2 have a finite life so advice in this area would be gratefully received.

Thanks for any help you can give.

You want a Tachyon Beam Laser Paladin. Marauders are going through a rebalance very soon so I won't go into any specific fits as the metagame needs to settle before we know whats the best way to fit a Paladin post Rubicon.

Thanks for your reply. I will begin research in that direction.

T1 Crystals last forever, as you already knew.
T2 Crystals last ~1000 shots
And Navy Crystals last ~4000 shots.

You probably wanna use Beams, but Pulselaser can easely reach up to 90km range with Scorch-Crystals with decent Damage and much better tracking. (on the New Paladin)

This. With the new bastion module, you'll be able to use pulse and still get good range. Hell, if they don't change the numbers much you'll be able to use conflag and still get good range numbers.

There is something nice about tachyons though.

I would agree with using tachyons and faction crystals on a paladin. Running those sites you will probably be warping in at range to minimize incoming DPS and NPC transversal so tracking shouldn't be a problem at ranges 50+km which is perfect for using tachyons and INMF crystals.

The good thing about using faction crystals as has already been mentioned is that they last about 4000 shots which is a really long time compared to scorch's 1000. Another thing to keep in mind is that tachyons due twice the volley damage as pulses. This means you can 1 shot anything BC and smaller most of the time and it would also mean you need to shoot each BS NPC more times with scorch depleting their life at a faster rate.

If you use the bastion module with this fit (minus the faction stuff where needed of course) you can get 1146 DPS to 73km and have a 51km falloff: Shocked

Pulse+Scorch Paladin in Rubicon can get more optimal than tachyons. Arcosian's fit with Pulse + Scorch gets a range of 99km + 21km. And 877 DPS. It's a bit silly.

I have to disagree as pulse is limited to 99+27km using scorch while using the short range ammo of INMF with tachs gives 73+51km. All you have to do is switch to longer range crystals like Xray 109+51km at 977 DPS or UV 127+51km at 860 DPS. The only downside of these long ranges is the paladin has a lock range of 113km so you would start having to sacrifice mid slots for sebos or signal amps and to me that is not needed since 1150 DPS at 73km is a bit overkill.

Hell even with INMF you would still be doing 1000 DPS at 90km thanks to the really long falloff of tachs.

Good points.

Plus, when your target gets to within ~37km, you drop a mobile depot and switch to Pulse + INMF on the fly.

If you plan on using the bastion module there is a good chance you will get pooped on with the new warp speed changes. Once someone realizes a marauder is ratting with a bastion they will time their log ins or warps and it will be all over.

And then, if you have your mobile depot already out, you just refit for tank and let a 10ish roaming gang hammer you efectless until your buddys show up to burn you free.

This. New Paladin can tank 9k dps if you can refit to solid tank.

I soloed a Horde in a Naga.

I don't see the reason for using a Paladin beyond giving people something blingy to murder.

Oh. Right. Carry the hell on!

Looks like a good bet. You can easily carry a tractoring structure and a mobile depot to refit off in your enormous cargohold. 650dps tanked should be enough aswell :>
